The World’s Largest Repository of Free Online Learning Tutorials

The World’s Largest Repository of Free Online Learning Tutorials | Virtual Learning potential | Scoop.it

Here’s a common scenario. Someone emails and asks about an elearning tutorial I have on the blog. It’s not always easy to find the specific tutorial buried in a given post. In fact, there are many times I either forgot that I had created that tutorial or I can’t recall where it’s at either. I know. It’s part of getting older.

Today I am going to fix that. I have listed every blog post that has a video tutorial that shows how to create something related to online learning. So, if you’re just getting started with building online learning courses (or new to the blog), now you have a handy resource with links to all sorts of rapid elearning tutorials.

Transition from Tradition: 9 Tips for successfully moving your face-to-face course online

Let's face facts. A computer screen offers students neither the warm comfort of peers nor the imposing brow of an instructor to encourage them to show up. We have to manufacture that motivation elsewhere to inspire students to virtually attend class and provide a means for them to be proactive in their learning.

Teaching with Google Earth- Awesome Tips and Tutorials ~ Educational Technology and Mobile Learning

Teaching with Google Earth- Awesome Tips and Tutorials ~ Educational Technology and Mobile Learning | Virtual Learning potential | Scoop.it

Google Earth is a geobrowser that represents the earth as 3 dimensional globe using satellite and aerial imagery, ocean bathymetry and other geographic data over the internet. Google refers to this service as " geographic browser or geobrowser" and provides it to its users in two versions: One is free and the other is pro. Of course the paid version has more advanced features and functionalities, however, the free basic version is generous enough for us in education.

Impact of Open Educational Resources on Online Learning - Inside Online Schools

Impact of Open Educational Resources on Online Learning - Inside Online Schools | Virtual Learning potential | Scoop.it

Open Educational Resources (OER) have created opportunities for people to learn things they may never have dreamed possible.  Access to educational materials has become available through online sites across the globe.  Many people may be familiar with the term “open source” as it applies to how computer programmers have shared information.  However, the term “OER” may be less familiar.  Within the education realm, sharing of information through OER has begun to change the process of how people learn.

Exploring Curation as a core competency in digital and media literacy education

Exploring Curation as a core competency in digital and media literacy education | Virtual Learning potential | Scoop.it

Part Abstract: In today's hypermedia landscape, youth and young adults are increasingly using social media platforms, online aggregators and mobile applications for daily information use. Communication educators, armed with a host of free, easy-to-use online tools, have the ability to create dynamic approaches to teaching and learning about information and communication flow online. In this paper we explore the concept of curation as a student- and creation-driven pedagogical tool to enhance digital and media literacy education.

Provocative article, especially the questions at the bottom, including: What happens when students don't know what they don't know?

I ask this for us as communities and a socieity, what happens when we don't know what we don't know?

History has some terrifying answers on what people can do collectively when locked into a set idea of "knowledge."

How can we best leverage technology to support students as critical thinkers, curious and empowered?
