Give your Moodle 2.5 site a MOOC makeover with the "Learn Moodle MOOC" theme

Give your Moodle 2.5 site a MOOC makeover with the "Learn Moodle MOOC" theme | Digital Learning, Technology, Education | Scoop.it

If you have checked out the the Learn Moodle MOOC, you will have noticed its unique theme.  The theme is a custom version of the Bootstrap theme and is the creation of Barbara Ramiro,  ‎the Web and Graphic Designer at Moodle HQ.

If you are interested in replicating the look of the MOOC on your own test or production site, you will be pleased to know that the theme is available on Github: https://github.com/barbararamiro/moodle-theme_learnmoodle.

To install the theme, download and extract the zip file. A folder named moodle-theme_learnmoodle-master will be created. Rename the folder to learnmoodle and upload it to your moodle/theme folder.

Another reason to download this theme is its instructive README.txt found inside the zip file. If you are a budding theme designer, you will be pleased to know that the text file walks you through the steps to create a new theme by customising the learnmoodle theme. The section below is the complete README.txt instructions.

O grande desafio é não obstruir os fluxos espontâneos na convivênvcia humana. E não só na escola: em todos os espaços verticalizados o que fazemos é obstrução de fluxo.

We continue to use technology to reinforce 19th century teaching practice' | Digital Learning, Technology, Education | Scoop.it

why [has] technology, to date, had very little impact on improved learning outcomes? This could be because we continue to use technology to reinforce 19th century teaching practice to meet out-dated assessment models. Most of the world’s curriculum and assessment systems are based around fact recall rather than actually demonstrating that you have learned something and can deploy it within a problem-solving situation.

"Another Brick In The Wall" - Pink Flloyd

The Planetary Archives / San Francisco, California's curator insight, November 17, 2013 3:12 PM

Our  education system is nothing more than child-care with some

indoctrination thown in.

See/hear "The Wall" by Pink Floyd  (40+ years ago.)

Let the children play until they are old enough to decide what they are interested in learning. That's completely different than training them from Day 1 to "sit still, be quiet, and obey authority." Training a 5-year old to become a "worker" or 'Businessman"  is not education, but it may be child abuse.

The Future of Work: Research Report

The Future of Work: Research Report | Digital Learning, Technology, Education | Scoop.it

Today’s business leaders face the challenge of creating the future workplace. Because of the advent of new technologies as well as the emergence of Millennials as a major percentage of the workforce, the future workplace will look vastly different than the one we are used to. At the same time, a culture of sharing, transparency, and mobility is entering the business world, as technology barriers lower. This change is being driven by the consumerization of IT, which can be described as the introduction of the popular consumer-grade technologies and devices that are spreading into the workplace for business use.

To better understand the scope and nature of this changes, Chess Media Group conducted a global research study in May 2013, surveying 605 employees who currently use social and collaboration technology tools, and how these tools affect their ability to work efficiently and flexibly.

How Course Design Puts the Focus on Learning Not Teaching

How Course Design Puts the Focus on Learning Not Teaching | Digital Learning, Technology, Education | Scoop.it

Instructional design, also known as learning design, appears to be making a comeback. Massive open online courses [MOOCs] that mimic the classroom model where the learner is passive and the instructor is not, highlights the need for fresh, new approach to course design. And it’s not just MOOCs that need help, but numerous courses currently offered online; many are in need an overhaul to create an environment focused on learning, rather than one that focuses on instruction.
