Good leadership is about knowing when to let go and most people that think they are educational leaders are simply managers. That is why so little changes.

10 Social Media Skills for The 21st Century Teachers | Educational Technology and Mobile Learning

10 Social Media Skills for The 21st Century Teachers | Educational Technology and Mobile Learning | Digital Learning, Technology, Education | Scoop.it

The potential of social networking sites in education is huge and we need to capitalize on it to enhance our professional development and consequently improve the quality of our instruction. Searching for articles on this topic , I came across Doug Johnson's post on the 10 social media competencies for teachers [http://doug-johnson.squarespace.com/blue-skunk-blog/2010/7/31/top-ten-social-media-competencies-for-teachers.html ]. I like the competencies Doug included and decided to make an infographic featuring all of these skills.  Have a look and share with your colleagues.

Going Beyond 'Learning to Code': Why 2014 is the Year of Web Literacy | DMLcentral

Going Beyond 'Learning to Code': Why 2014 is the Year of Web Literacy | DMLcentral | Digital Learning, Technology, Education | Scoop.it

In this post I want to argue that learning to code is part of a larger landscape that we at Mozilla call 'web literacy'. I see that landscape as being increasingly relevant in 2014 as we come to realise that "learn to code!" is too simplistic and de-contextualised to be a useful exhortation. Web Literacy, on the other hand, is reasonably well-defined as the skills and competencies required to read, write and participate effectively online. We’ve included ‘coding/scripting’ as just one part of a wider strand identified as 'Building' (i.e. writing) the web. Other competencies in this strand include 'remixing' and 'composing for the web'.

Turning a stumbling block into a stepping stone; one that others can use to step up in school! --Lou

Excerpt: "My passion is that no child leaves my school feeling unworthy. When I started as head at Skerne Park I decided to revamp the whole curriculum and created a stage, not age school. I increased the time we taught literacy from one to two hours a day and streamed all the children for reading and writing, ensuring every child is taught what they need at the right time. We've done that now for a year and a half and the progress of the students is absolutely enormous. I now have a lot of dyslexics in school and their self-esteem is through the roof because they see a headteacher who is the same as them. The fact that there is a dyslexic role model who is not doing too badly for themselves is really good for the children and helps them achieve."
