Virtual Environment in education
A growing number of educators and researchers have tapped into the educational potential of virtual environments. Educators have found virtual environments useful for teaching and research, although getting past technical requirements and issues can sometimes be challenging. Many of the properties of virtual environments seem to be conducive for good learning: they tend to be interactive, engaging, safe places for students to learn by doing and experimentation, and they provide scaffolding and immediate feedback.

Study Educational Technology in English Language Teaching Online

Study Educational Technology in English Language Teaching Online | Virtual Environment in education | Scoop.it

I’ve long believed that teacher development, especially when it comes to technology, is best done online and over a longer period than can be accomplished with face to face training courses. Online study gives teachers the opportunity to try out new ideas with their students, think things through, and reflect on what they have learned. Working online, they can also grow within a community of teachers from around the world, learn from each other and share their learning experiences. These principles have been at the heart of two new courses I have been developing in partnership with CELT Athens. I will be tutoring these courses from September 2012, so follow the link if you would like to find out more.

Digital Differentiation

Digital Differentiation | Virtual Environment in education | Scoop.it

Technology is a tool that can be used to help teachers facilitate learning experiences that address the diverse learning needs of all students and help them develop 21st Century Skills. At it's most basic level, digital tools can be used to help students find, understand and use information. When combined with student-driven learning experiences fueled by Essential Questions offering flexible learning paths, it can be the ticket to success.

Brenda Nielsen's curator insight, July 20, 2015 8:39 AM

What a wonderful overview of Digital interactions with the instructor being the center of all of the different interactive rings. One that I would like to point out, is the blue ring on the left--this is so important when working with digital technology. The tech support needs to be onboard, readily available with support so that students do focus on the task and not the technology. Technology is the tool to assist students and is becoming more and more an integrated part of learning.

The yellow ring is yet another big leap away from even traditional classrooms using technology. The Front of the classroom DOES disappear and learning using digital means come from all sides of the classroom, encounters, and investigation. There is no front or back of the classroom anymore.

Are Virtual Worlds (still) Relevant in Education?

Back in 2005, the growth of Second Life (SL), which was the first social virtual world without overt MMORPG game mechanics, seemed to herald the age of educational virtual world use. SL got the attention of educators because it wasn't a "game" and allowed users to build environments and programmed objects along with social interaction. Sudden increased awareness of the platform served as a "Technology Trigger" that had instructional technologists and educators clamoring to collaborate on ways to utilize this new tool.

Dr. Doris Molero's comment, February 6, 2012 7:21 AM
Virtual worlds need a different way to look at ducation.. you don't go there to be taughtt.. you learn there by yourself... exploring.. asking questions.. wondering and wandering.. Serendipity lives there. It's up to educators to let you be and motivate you to go ahead and click around. Propose interesting projects where you need to think, collaborate and finally create. There are great communities who will certainly help you. In technology ... everyone is following the latest trend.. they go jumping from one tool to another without grasping fully any of them. Don't forget ..it's not the tool it's how you integrate it to whatever you are adventuring into. I still think virtual worlds are wonderful! There are tech problems, we know.. but it's intersting how we can find solutions. It takes time and effort..but it's that what life is about, finding solutions to keep on shining?
