Teaching as a Way to Learn What is learning and what is the best way to approach it? Listening to lectures, watching videos, listening to podcasts, or reading
Dr. Nellie Deutsch's insight:

I'd like your thoughts on teaching as a way to learn. Please share your experiences on the blog post comment area so I can learn from you and have the feedback in one area.  I'm researching quality instruction and learning and skills needed for the 21st century learner. This article describes learning as listening to lectures, watching videos, listening to podcasts, or reading text may not be as effective and meaningful as learning through active learning. Being involved and part of the learning process helps students retain information. One way to get students involved in active learning is through teaching as a way to learn. Success is from learning.

There are different ways to approach learning, bu the easiest way is to teach others what you have learned and proving that you are smart.

The 21st century learner should be goal oriented and prepared to be self directed. Teachers should give guidance, point learners to places where they may find information, e.g. youtube, websites, chapters in books. The face to face part of teaching and learning should consist of teacher asking questions based on the information gathered, with learner giving their own critical analytical evaluation of the readings.
