While on honeymoon in Belize woman discovers recipe for making chicken and now has won for Portland's Top 10 new food carts for 2013 | Virtual Administrator | Scoop.it

If there's a new challenger as queen of Portland chicken carts, it's Tiffany Love, the enthusiastic owner at Love Belizean. Love takes bone-in chicken, braises it in a mix of spices including garlic and achiote, then roasts the meat until its skin develops a sticky savoriness. Each piece comes in a box with dirty rice, an onion-rich Caribbean salsa, arugula salad, fresh lime and your pick from the rainbow of Marie Sharp's Belizean hot sauces.

How You Can Prepare for Twitter’s Potential Upcoming Changes

How You Can Prepare for Twitter’s Potential Upcoming Changes | Virtual Administrator | Scoop.it
Twitter strategy might be shifting and the implications for our personal and business experience could be profound.

Source: www.businessesgrow.com

If you're in social media marketing, you probably cringe at the mention of the word EdgeRank. I know I do, because it makes me think of how frustrating it is that even the best of my brand's Facebook content might not be seen by more than 200 or 300 of our 57,000 fans unless I spend money to promote it.

Brace yourselves, social marketers, because algorithms just like Facebook's EdgeRank might be coming to Twitter. In this post by our friend Mark Schaeffer, you can learn about some of the reasons why Twitter is thinking about implementing this, including the pressure from investors now that Twitter has gone public.

Mark brings up some great points for both sides like the fact that, with so many active users, "an unfiltered news stream can seem overwhelming," but one of the best things about Twitter is that it's completely unfiltered because  it allows for news to break in real time; something we see happening more and more each day.

According to Mark - and most marketers including myself happen to agree - Twitter will ultimately end up implementing an algorithm that determines what updates you see depending on elements like trending topics and interaction history, which will make organic reach plummet which would effectively eliminate the main differentiator of Twitter from Facebook.

What can do you, then, to prepare for this change?   Continue reading →

5 tools to transform or enhance text-heavy articles | Virtual Administrator | Scoop.it
During the news:rewired conference last week, Ezra Eeman of Journalism Tools gave delegates a list of essential tools journalists should be aware of when creating enganging content for their audiences. Some of these tools can be applied directly to text-based articles to add a multimedia element and, overall, a more colorful story. There are 50,000 news apps every month, not counting new web online tools found around the internet which journalists can use, said Eeman, and it can be quite difficult to sift through them....

CASA grounds real estate agency drones

CASA grounds real estate agency drones | Virtual Administrator | Scoop.it
The Civil Aviation Safety Authority has demanded that a real estate agency ground its drones used to take advertising photographs of properties. South Australian agency Toop&Toop was using unmanned aerial vehicles, or 'drones', fitted with cameras to take aerial photos or footage of properties. Other real estate agencies, such as Melbourne's Marshall White, do the same. The Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) notified the company that they were unauthorised to operate the drones on a commercial basis, putting an end to the practice at the company. Despite reports that it is illegal for real estate agents to use drones, the practice is legal as long as the operator has approval. Managing director Anthony Toop says the company was unaware of any legal issues when they first launched the drones. “We ordered the first ones from the States,” says Toop. “Our trials were fantastic – the results were so much better than we could ever have imagined.”

The Science of Storytelling

The Science of Storytelling | Virtual Administrator | Scoop.it

Many studies show us that our brains prefer storytelling to facts. When we read facts, only the language parts of our brains work to understand the meaning. When we read a story, the language parts of our brains and any other part of the brain that we would use if we were actually experiencing what we’re reading, light up.This means that it’s easier for us to remember stories than facts. Our brains can't make major distinctions between a story we’re reading about and something we are actually doing....

Judging by the outcry over Tweetchat having to close, due to Twitter’s new API restructuring, and the interest shown in replacement platforms, it’s fair to say that Twitter chats continue to be popular for both Twitter users and brands alike.

The ease in which topics and conversations can be filtered using the hashtag on Twitter enforces the idea that, when done right, Twitter chats and their attached hashtags are a great way to solicit feedback, user experience, crowdsourcing and more.

To make that ease even more effective, here are three cool hashtag trackers that don’t need a second mortgage to use.

The content beast is a hungry animal, and business owners trying to keep up with feeding this beast, often struggle to maintain the pace.

The chief culprit behind this struggle, is the old writers block, something that is easily overcome with a little knowledge and expert guidance.

This excellent article, provides four tips for overcoming the common obstacles to producing engaging and informative content for your customers or clients, and it also includes 10 tips to help create content that doesn't come across as poorly disguised sales pitches.

From the  article: A recent study by BusinessBolts.com found that 74 percent of small businesses plan on increasing the amount of content they produce this year.

Yet coming up with engaging and informative content for clients and customers is not always easy. Whether you are looking to develop articles for your newsletter or posts for your blog — or even just thinking of things to share on Facebook, Twitter, or Pinterest — coming up with good ideas can be challenging. And inevitably, the harder you try to think of great content, the harder it gets. Proverbial writer’s block sets in. And stays. Awhile.
