Ollie Lloyd's insight:

It seems that vinyl records aren't just coming back into peoples homes for personal use, but according to this article they are popping up in modern movies and media. People see this as a classic way to listen to music so it makes sense why it won't just go away. Soundtracks to modern movies are being made available on vinyl as do some popular artists do with their new album releases. It is obvious they are making a big comeback and I don't think vinyl records will ever go away, atleast until as long as I live.

Vinyl records are making their resurgence into popularity because they are seen as retro and old school.

Courtney Striegler's curator insight, July 23, 4:20 AM

This article is great because it explains how the media of movies can influence people so easily. Many movies today do in fact have characters using turn tables and records(also cassette tapes) and it's very interesting to see how influential it is to our generation.

So, which records are selling best? As of the weekend, the top vinyl titles include albums by the Death Grips, Amy Winehouse and Arcade Fire.
Ollie Lloyd's insight:

Even though vinyl records are an old and a bit out of date format to listen to music with, they still have great quality sound and that goes hand in hand with their recent increase in sales. A 745 percent increase is pretty big increase and it is really interesting to see them come back in a modern format like amazon. It is really amazing that such a traditional technology is being distributed through the modern internet.

Amazon recently released information stating that vinyl sales are up 745 percent from 2008, but only make up two percent of the overall music market.
Ollie Lloyd's insight:

It has been floating around for some time now that vinyl records are making a comeback in sales. Even though we are going into the digital age it is interesting to see us still hold onto traditional technologies and recording techniques.

The Pros of this hot topic are that it is good to see people going back to an older way, and in most peoples opinions, a better way to listen to music. The cons of this topic are that they are far from in control of the market, they may make a comeback but it will most likely remain well under 50% of the market for some time.

Ollie Lloyd's insight:

This article really backs up the common knowledge that vinyl records have a rich, authentic sound that not many other formats of audio can produce. This topic is just starting to heat up but people don't seem to be getting too ahead of themselves because they are aware that these numbers are growing but it is at a small amount and it will take time. I find this topic to be personally interesting because I love the quality of sound that you get from vinyl records.

Some people prefer the distinct sound of music played via analog. Be it nostalgia, or a simple taste for the specific quality of sound, Vinyl still carries weight with many people.

Brandon Baysore's curator insight, November 11, 2015 1:07 PM

I'm adding this to my collection because it displays the way that vinyl is making it's way back into popularity among consumers.

Courtney Striegler's curator insight, July 23, 4:16 AM

I really enjoyed reading this article, mainly because I'm just excited to read that the sales are coming up on vinyl records. Old school is cool, and sounds way better!

But here's the thing: Even in today's diminished music business, 2.9 million albums isn't very much.
Ollie Lloyd's insight:

According to this article vinyl records are definetly making a comeback and have been since 2006. I am adding this article to my collection of scoops because it is pretty specific towards my hot topic and provides a good amount of information. It is interesting that even though vinyl records are making a comeback, they are still in small numbers.
