The aim is to provide video-based instructions on the use of studio tools so that more students can learn at a time and pace that better suites them. Andrew will continue to give formal instructions as well as observe class use. These videos are to augment that activity.

Useful summary of six different types of classroom project where the core activity is creating video using a variety of tools. The outline also includes a number of free online tools that can be used as part of the projects. Another helpful resource from Richard Byrne and his Freetech4teachers.com website. Thanks to @easegill (Nigel Robertson) of the WCEL Unit (Waikato Centre for eLearning) for pointing this resource out to me.

Appear.in is a handy FREE alternative to other video-conferencing tools such as Skype or Zoom. There is no client app to download and no account creation requirement. You simply log in to the appear.in website and get allocated a room with a unique URL link. Give permission for your camera and microphone to be used, send the link to the other people you want to videoconference with and you're in! Can cater for up to eight users.

So if you want a quick and easy way to get a guest speaker into your FTF class via video link (and Skype is not installed in your lecture theatre computers) then give this a try. I did have some problems with audio quality when more than one person joined the videoconference but I haven't worked out why...
