How to Create Boring-Industry Content that Gets Shared

How to Create Boring-Industry Content that Gets Shared | Social Video Success Strategies | Scoop.it

Many marketers balk at the prospect of creating content for industries that just aren't conducive to interesting topics. This post explains why that's short-sighted, and offers a different approach.

Boring is a state of mind. If you go into a creative project with a clear udnerstanding of the audience and a desire to serve that audience,  you can craft content that speaks to them in an interesting way. Buyers having to make decisions will crave for genuinely educational content so it's all a matter of context. This post on Moz goes beyond making the argument to give actionable tips on how to make that happen starting by defining personas and thinking about their interest. Top 5 Online Social Networking Groups for Doctors

Top 5 Online Social Networking Groups for Doctors | Social Video Success Strategies | Scoop.it

Doctors and medical professionals can connect online using social media sites like Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn. However, many doctors like the option of increased security of fraternizing in social networking groups specific to those in the medical profession. This article will discuss some online social networking groups that doctors and medical professionals can join to connect, network and socialize.

1. Sermo
Sermo is currently the #1 online social network for doctors in the US. Members have the opportunity to fraternize with other medical professionals and discuss real-world medicine. Basically, the network acts as an online doctor’s lounge where medical minds can meet and discuss what’s important to physicians in today’s world. Members like the network because the interactions can be anonymous and they don’t have to worry about any discussions being shared with their hospital administrator. Additional benefits include participating in medical crowdsourcing where doctors can assist their colleagues by sharing and solving challenging medical cases. Sermo.com is aiming to build the “largest medical database of real live cases, questions and answers.” Weekly physician polls are offered where members can respond to current medical issues as well as healthcare trends. Doctors can also participate in the research program and receive honoraria for their perspective on issues and research completed. Over $16 million honoraria was given out by Sermo.com worldwide last year.

2. Doximity
Doximity is an online social network for doctors that was launched in March 2011. As of December 2014, there are over 400,000 members, which is over half of the nation’s practicing physicians.
Members have the opportunity to connect with fellow classmates, colleagues and co-residents. Additionally, networking opportunities abound with regard to connecting with colleagues and employers at various leading US hospitals. Another great benefit is that members can read their favorite medical journals and earn category 1 CME credits. Doctors can also effortlessly send and receive HIPAA-secure faxes from their mobile devices.

3. Ozmosis
Ozmosis is a social network for physicians, which was created by Ozmosis, Inc., a medical social business software company founded in 2008. Members can connect with other physicians through a social platform that is secure and trusted. Individuals can share health related information, as well as clinical and practice management advice. Doctors can connect with their peers and discuss information that is relevant to their specialty. Ozmosis, Inc. ensures that all members’ identities are verified and only US licensed physicians are permitted to join the network. Additionally, the online community is free from advertising and commercial solicitation.

4. OrthoMind
OrthoMind is a more specialized online network for orthopedic surgeons. It is a global practice network that was founded by orthopedic surgeons. Members can connect on the forum or online community. They have an opportunity to connect with other orthopedic surgeons through the networks feature. Additionally, various medical products are reviewed and those reviews are available to members. There is a surgeon’s online lounge as well as a Grand Rounds Forum where challenging cases are discussed. Every aspect of communication and information sharing is done in and ethical manner that is compliant with HIPAA. Members are able to access various tools and resources which will aid them in saving money and running their practices in a more efficient manner.

5. WemedUp
WeMedUp is an online community that offers world-class collaboration for medical professionals. The basis behind this online community is that physicians can get together online to connect with others of a like-mind and collaborate on the following: patient case studies and research. Additionally, members can participate in online polls, search for job openings and chat with fellow members in a private environment. Membership is available to the following medical professionals: physicians, dentists, allied health professionals, medical and dental students, students of other health professions, and administrators and staff at medical and dental institutions.

If you are a doctor or professional in the medical profession and are members of any of these online social networks, we’d love to hear about your experiences. Also, if you are a member of any other online social networks for health professionals that are not mentioned in this article feel free to share your experiences as well.

One of the topics I always cover in my storytelling workshops is "The Art Of The Question". Why? Because when you are evoking stories from others, knowing the right questions to ask is critical. If you ask the wrong kind of question you won't get a story.Likewise, as you listen to the story, other questions will come to mind. What are those kinds of questions and how do you leverage different questions to go deeper into the story?Well, here's a handy chart and explanation to get you started. I really like the axis, and the discussion of what the different kinds of questions will get you.May all your listening bring you clarification and wisdom!

Stop Guessing: Here’s a Social Media Strategy That Works

Stop Guessing: Here’s a Social Media Strategy That Works | Social Video Success Strategies | Scoop.it
Everyone makes it sound so easy. Post a few times on Facebook, Twitter, or LinkedIn, and the traffic will pour in.

In reality, it’s not easy. And like with anything else, you need to spend some time learning how to do it properly.

I assure you it’s possible. My nutrition blog case study received over 9,000 visits from Facebook alone last month, despite being a new blog.

But as I noted in that second-month update, it could be doing even better. My friend Mike, who is running the site, is a really smart guy, but it’s still taking him some time to really understand how to use social media to its fullest potential.

You should care about social media traffic because it is one of the biggest referrers of traffic at your disposal. In early 2015, social media traffic made up 31% of overall traffic.

4 Healthcare Brands That Are Using YouTube Right

4 Healthcare Brands That Are Using YouTube Right | Social Video Success Strategies | Scoop.it

With more than 1 billion users and 300 hours of video uploaded every minute, YouTube has clearly moved far beyond being simply a home for user-generated cat clips.

Yet many brands, especially healthcare brands, still haven’t fully embraced the network; in part this is because of lingering weariness, but the hesitancy is also rooted in not knowing exactly where to start.

Delay no longer. Thanks to a few pioneering brands, it has become clear over the past few years that YouTube is an excellent outlet for distributing healthcare-related content.

In particular, the four brands below are excellent models to follow for using the platform to build interest and engagement.

1. Cigna

An analysis by Performics last year found that Cigna gets the most views per video on YouTube of any major healthcare provider. What’s the secret to its success? Largely, that the company commits ad spend to serve its short pieces as pre-rolls before other YouTube videos.

While that may sound like cheating, it’s actually a great example of how to use YouTube right. Cigna has devoted time to developing specific digital short-form ads—the videos are around 15 to 20 seconds on average—and it’s targeting relevant content and audiences. In other words, the company is creating its YouTube videos with a very clear purpose in mind.

2. GE Healthcare

YouTube’s Creator Playbook for Brands constantly stresses the importance of developing engaging videos. Why? Because, as the guide puts it, “Compelling videos can bring in new viewers, introduce them to the rest of your content, and build a loyal fanbase.”

GE Healthcare does an excellent job of drawing audiences in by showing off its products in engaging ways. For example, this simple, but compelling, HD ultrasound piece has garnered 168,000 views.

3. Novartis

Life hacks are one of the staples of YouTube, with tens of thousands of videos on the platform explaining how to do everything from tying a tie to falling asleep better.

Earlier this year, Novartis smartly took this trope and used it for a much more serious purpose: highlighting creative ways to make everyday tasks simpler for people living with multiple sclerosis (MS). The “7 Small Life Hacks That Make a Big Difference” already has nearly 74,000 views.

4. CMN Hospitals

The patients at Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals often have inspiring and heartbreaking stories.

On its YouTube channel, the organization does an excellent job of highlighting some of these tales. The pieces range in topic and length (some go as long as 13 minutes), but all are presented beautifully and tastefully.
