Robin Carlisle's insight:

A lot of folks still don't realize the importance of sharing these kind of key concepts through SlideShare, so i wanted to commend you for sharing this on ScoopIt. Video is fast taking over the majority of our online time, partly because a viewer can quickly "channel surf" for titles and topics of interest, take a quick peek, then sort through the next video much faster than they can transition from one piece of writing to another. While they can "hear" the voice and quickly grasp the intention and expertise of a vlogger, on the written side, it takes a much bigger investment of time and attention to grasp a writer's point, to capture their voice, to understand their intent, and to empathize with their cause. Whew! Just writing and rereading this one little bitty paragraph takes work, doesn't it? SOOOOO, friends, think about converting your BIG meaty words into bite-size video viewer chunks and serving them up in SlideShares and Videos... not instead... but WITH your main course. Just my thoughts...

Curation sites are becoming hugely important in our online marketing campaigns. Additionally, often times blog posts that are nothing more than a list of currated links on a certain niche tend to do really well.

Luke Hancock - H&H Social Design's curator insight, May 13, 2013 4:13 PM

Interesting take to curate content of your competitors or curating content that offers a different editorial from your content. I do agree, it will lend to you being more of a thoughts leader without the agenda.

Robin Carlisle's insight:

It's so embarassing to see the vast number of "internet PR courses" being sold to unknowing internet marketers these days. PR is way more than just an art you can "learn" by reading a couple of ebooks and definitely better left to the real professionals. Business owners should take a HUGE buyer-beware stance BEFORE hiring any PR agency or individual agent. This article turned out to be a great primer on how to tell a pro from an inept profiteer, as well as how to "choose" the pro and NOT the inept profiteer.

Video SEO is a very important aspect of any SEO campaign for a site with video content - there are many benefits that can be gained from implementing a suc.
Robin Carlisle's insight:

Probably 90% or more of the business owners I talk with don't have a clue about Video SEO... or even the fact that such a thing exists. That's unfortunate... because its the EASIEST thing a business owner can do online to boost both their YouTube AND Google SERP rankings... with visible results happening most often within hours, not days, weeks or months.

Find the Heart of Your Brand Storytelling with These 6 Questions | Content Marketing Institute

Find the Heart of Your Brand Storytelling with These 6 Questions | Content Marketing Institute | Video Marketing for Small Business Owners | Scoop.it

Stories make life interesting and give people a way to connect. People crave them, which creates a big opportunity for brand storytelling.

A brand story is made up of all that you are and all that you do. From the company’s history, mission, inspiration, goals, audience, and raison d’être, it’s why you exist. Your story is the people, places, and ideas that your company thrives on. It’s the foundation that keeps a brand going and growing. It’s a blend of those vital little core pieces of information about your business — how you came to be, why your products or services are special, what you’re passionate about, your company culture, how you make people’s lives better, and why you would do business with your company.

Read the full article to find out more about these basic questions which will help pull your story out of its box:

1. What’s your reason for being?

2. What’s your history?3. Who are your main characters?4. What’s your corporate mission?

5. How have you failed?

6. Where are your gaps?

Via Kim Zinke (aka Gimli Goose)
Robin Carlisle's insight:

This is definitely a good story starter... especially if you've not thought to fully tell your story before.

I like that they provide examples for questions 1 & 2.  I wish they would've done that for the other 4 questions.

This is a great comment from the end of the article:

"You have to know who you are before you can explain it to someone else. Brands that don’t have their core value propositions in place, or have internal discrepancies about what they are even trying to say, will never be able to share their story with the world in an honest and engaging way."

It's also often the hardest thing for people and organizations to do. It's hard to see your story when you're living the story.

Mervi Rauhala's curator insight, June 20, 2013 2:40 AM

Nice handy tips how to discover your brands story.

Robin Carlisle's comment, May 5, 2013 10:04 PM
Me thinks the time to "understand the need to engage with audiences, whether online or in person" was bag in 1998... when there were less than 30 blogs online. I got it... but when I tried to talk about it... it fell on deaf ears. Only four years ago, Gary Vaynerchuk was still having to explain to CNN broadcast interviewers why 100,000 viewers would click on a channel just to watch someone eat cereal every single day. It sounded obtuse, but the point he was trying to make was that when you draw those kinds of numbers, for whatever reason, advertisers will follow those eyeballs. Meaning, the eyeballs were fast turning away from one-way broadcasts... and toward two-three-hundred-way communication channels. On the print side, I just read the weekend agenda for a Major State's Press Association Convention this June. OMG... they reeeeeeeeeeally don't get it... and both their few remaining newspaper leaders, editors, and academic presenters were waaaaaaaaaay off track... as well as about 15 years behind the curve. It's NOT newspapers that are doomed. It's newspapers who still THINK they are news PAPERS. Not very hopeful for the former bigwigs I saw on their "leadership list.".
