South Korean Politicians Want Video Games Placed Alongside Drugs And ... Techdirt As you should know by now, there are people in this world that think an addiction to the internet and/or video games is a thing.
Apparently online multiplayer gaming is now considered an addiction. As a supporter of eSports, this "addiction" can often be confused with "dedication." The unfortunate thing about this article is that they are generalizing video games as a whole instead of breaking down each genre.
This is just my opinion, but witnessing millions of dollars being invested into eSport organizations, players, teams, and local tournaments, it will only be a matter of time before the word "addiction" is replaced with "dedication" A top League of Legends player has the potential to win millions of dollars from tournaments plus other sponsorships, while World of Warcraft can only earn revenue from sponsorship and their twitch streams. They practice hours a day preparing for tournaments and entertaining their fans.
The fine line between "addiction" and "dedication" will continue to be blurred... especially with more money on the line. Always eager to hear gamers input.
