Adobe Announces Project Primetime Advances, iOS App Support

At The Cable Show, Adobe introduces Adobe Media Server 5 (formerly Flash Media Server) and Adobe Access 4. Both include support for native Apple iOS apps.

Adobe chose The Cable Show, currently underway in Boston, Massachusetts, as the setting to make three significant announcements. First, it's adding a component to Project Primetime for seamless ad integration. Announced in late February of this year, Project Primetime is a platform that lets media companies stream video to a landscape of devices, and includes content protection, ad insertion, and analytics. The new component, Primetime Simulcast, lets media companies replace broadcast ads with ads sold for the online market.

ITU Issues UHDTV Standards Recommendations

GENEVA--The International Telecommunication Union (ITU), in conjunction with television industry experts, broadcasting organizations, and regulatory organizations, has announced a recommendation for quality standards in connection with the development of ultra high-definition television (UHDTV). The recommendation (ITU-R) comesfrom the ITU’s Study Group 6, and proposes transitioning into UHDTV in two steps—first a move to “4 K” images and then on to “8 K” video. The first stage is equivalent to a picture with approximately eight megapixels (3840 x 2160) and the second stage would equate to images containing approximately 32 megapixels (7680 x 4320).

IBC2012 : HbbTV Sweeps Interactive TV Across Europe

With estimates of 60 million HbbTV compliant TV sets in Western Europe by 2014, HbbTV is becoming the dominant standard for interactive, hybrid and OTT delivery in Europe. It’s a success story unmatched by previous pan-European interactive TV initiatives.

Huge impetus was given to rollout late last year when 20 EBU members including RAI (Italy); RTVE (Spain); YLE (Finland); RTBF (Belgium) and NRK (Norway) agreed to deploy HbbTV services in 2012 and to establish a common market for hybrid television applications.

EBU Director General Ingrid Deltenre said; “Underlying this co-operation is the shared conviction that only high quality creative content can breathe life into the promise of hybrid technology – and only a flexible, cross-border approach will make it happen quickly.”

FORscene : world’s largest Cloud video post-production platform

Out of all the companies with industry-standard video editing apps, only Avid has managed to release a Cloud-based version – and this only recently. How is it that Forbidden Technologies has been able to get so far ahead in this space?

Many companies have tried to use a readily available web video streaming technology, such as MPEG, to base their editing system on. The eight year lead Forbidden has in its frame accurate cloud post-production platform shows just what an obstacle it is to try to fit together pieces designed to solve the wrong problem.
