Adobe chose The Cable Show, currently underway in Boston, Massachusetts, as the setting to make three significant announcements. First, it's adding a component to Project Primetime for seamless ad integration. Announced in late February of this year, Project Primetime is a platform that lets media companies stream video to a landscape of devices, and includes content protection, ad insertion, and analytics. The new component, Primetime Simulcast, lets media companies replace broadcast ads with ads sold for the online market.

GENEVA--The International Telecommunication Union (ITU), in conjunction with television industry experts, broadcasting organizations, and regulatory organizations, has announced a recommendation for quality standards in connection with the development of ultra high-definition television (UHDTV). The recommendation (ITU-R) comesfrom the ITU’s Study Group 6, and proposes transitioning into UHDTV in two steps—first a move to “4 K” images and then on to “8 K” video. The first stage is equivalent to a picture with approximately eight megapixels (3840 x 2160) and the second stage would equate to images containing approximately 32 megapixels (7680 x 4320).
There are three main areas for improvement needed by video delivered in HTML5 format, according to Matt Frost, senior business product manager for Google Chrome: content protection, adaptive streaming, and captioning.

Huge impetus was given to rollout late last year when 20 EBU members including RAI (Italy); RTVE (Spain); YLE (Finland); RTBF (Belgium) and NRK (Norway) agreed to deploy HbbTV services in 2012 and to establish a common market for hybrid television applications.
EBU Director General Ingrid Deltenre said; “Underlying this co-operation is the shared conviction that only high quality creative content can breathe life into the promise of hybrid technology – and only a flexible, cross-border approach will make it happen quickly.” Via Nicolas Weil
