Columbia University students create software allowing native iOS apps to run on Android devices

Columbia University students create software allowing native iOS apps to run on Android devices | Veille technologique | Scoop.it
For some time now, iOS users have cited the quality and quantity of third-party software available for the platform as an important factor in their choice of mobile devices. Over the years Android has amassed its own collection of apps and users have continued butting heads over which system had the better selection. Six Columbia University students have bridged the gap between the two platforms with something called Cider.

It’s useless unless you steal the applications from iOS which is kind of illegal. These guys will probably tell you that it’s just a project for them and they don’t advocate the stealing part, but in reality, these guys have just enabled theft on a large scale!

Between Ape and Artilect

Between Ape and Artilect | Veille technologique | Scoop.it
During 2010-12, noted AI researcher and long-time Humanity+ Board member Ben Goertzel conducted a series of textual interviews with researchers in various areas of cutting-edge science — artificial general intelligence, nanotechnology, life extension, neurotechnology, collective intelligence, mind uploading, body modification, neuro-spiritual transformation, and more. These interviews were published online in H+ Magazine, and are here gathered together in a single volume. The resulting series of dialogues treats a variety of social, futurological and scientific topics in a way that is accessible to the educated non-scientist, yet also deep and honest to the subtleties of the topics being discussed. Between Ape and Artilect is a must-read if you want the real views, opinions, ideas, muses and arguments of the people creating our future.

Teachers all over America are faced with this challenge of keeping students engaged in the classroom when their world outside of school is one of constant engagement and stimulation. Knowing the world outside of our institutional walls is only one step in addressing modern learning styles.
