Interesting article. Towards the end we have a piece on Gartner's findings in regards to cost, arguing that in the long run the savings will not be all that much better. But best to read it there.

Kathleen McClaskey's curator insight, September 17, 2013 3:35 PM
A Personalized Learning System is a culture shift and a change in process that impacts the entire school community. Moving to learner-centered environments is more than just handing over the keys to the learner so they drive their own learning right away. This process is about developing a self-sustaining Personalized Learning System with your staff. This is about building a human infrastructure based on a train-the-trainer model where lead coaches support site coaches who support your teachers. Teachers become partners in learning with their learners as learners take ownership of their learning. - See more at: http://www.personalizelearning.com/2013/09/personalized-learning-system.html#sthash.mk9RGeTD.dpuf
Antonia Rudenstine's curator insight, September 18, 2013 8:18 AM

There isn't much text to accompany this graphic, but the graphic does a great job of helping us see the need for creating an ecosystem for personalization: it can't be achieved through a 1:1 relationship between a teacher and a student, let alone through a 1:25 relationship of a teacher in a class with 25 students. It requires a complete reconceptualization of roles and relationships.

Jeffrey Kleinpeter's insight:

In essence, designing the future through strategic partnerships means to improve on the conditions which are presently at hand. A key element of innovation is the dialogue among concerned stakeholders.  The influence and more affordable ICT has allowed us to integrate and bring new tools forward which can be applied to cluster development be it training, cross-sectoral / cross-border collaboration or setting a centralized framework and eliminating the geographical barrier “distance”.

Antonia Rudenstine's curator insight, September 22, 2013 9:33 AM

This fabulous post describes a new school for 18-30 year olds that will accept it's first group of 800 students (60,000 applied before the school even launched, and 4000 were accepted into a month-long program where they work on computer problems for 15 hours a day. What's powerful about the model is that ANYONE can apply: the school doesn't care what background, experience or credentials one has: it's how you think about and solve problems that matter. To this end, the school has no teachers: students have to be able to learn with each other and on their own, as they will have to do in the real world when they tackle powerful issues and problems....what would it be like to create this at the k-12 level? what will higher-education need to begin evolving into?
