The European Commission has circulated its proposals regarding ecigs to the EU Trilogue; this document has now entered the public domain. The Commission is one of the three 'groups' which make up the Trilogue; their roll is to oversee the negotiations between the EU Parliament and the Council of Ministers. Is this now the moment when we will witness the death of democracy first hand?
My Mother once told me that if one had to descend to using bad language then one had already lost the argument. With this in mind I shall (attempt) to keep my use of English moderate, but if you want to know how I really feel about this outrage then just add the 'f-word' between every word written here!
There was a film called that, wasn’t there? Perhaps that’s where they got the made-up number from.
Apparently, 600 children start smoking every day in the UK. That’s 600 new smokers among children every single day,. That’s 4200 a week. 218,400 in a year. All new smokers. All children. Every year. Surely they can’t see the board in school through the haze?
Blimey. The smoking rate among children must be 100% by now! At this rate they’ll have ashtrays at the ready in the delivery rooms soon.
Fighting the belief that our children are in constant danger from creeps, kidnapping, germs, grades, flashers, frustration, baby snatchers, bugs, bullies, men, sleepovers, Ivy League rejection letters and/or the perils of a non-organic grape.
'm sitting at my desk, looking at a photograph of a gangrenous foot. It is a bloated thing in hues of phlegmatic gray rot, sanguine inflammation, melancholic black bile, and choleric open sores—exhibiting all the humors of a meeting of the United Nations Human Rights Council. Above the photograph, in bold white capitals on a dull, matte background are the words “smoking causes peripheral vascular disease.” The photograph is helpfully labeled “gangrene.” Below the photograph, in a bland sans-serif typeface with letters an eighth of an inch high, is “Marlboro Red.”
Previously, I discussed a CDC study which found a doubling of the prevalence of current electronic cigarette use among youth from 2011 to 2012. This report has been used to alarm the public and policy makers about the hazards of electronic cigarettes, with the CDC director claiming that these data demonstrate that e-cigarettes are serving as a gateway to a lifetime of youth addiction to smoking.
That’s what we’ve been told by legislators and anti-nicotine campaigners seeking to ban electronic cigarettes, although it contradicts Professor Siegel’s assertion that actually scientists know exactly what is in eliquid, but are still unsure about what’s in tobacco smoke, with hundreds of chemicals yet to be identified.
Now a new study found that the “the quality of refill liquids for electronic cigarettes is surprisingly good.”
In 2000, I quit my pack-and-a-half-a-day habit. In 2004, I was knocked to my knees by a sudden onset of ulcerative colitis, a particularly sanguinary bowel condition that, at its peak, involved up to 20 trips to the bathroom a day and the occasional change of underwear. The very expensive medication I was given seemed to be doing the trick and the tumult in my gut stabilized to normalcy. I also started smoking again.
Last year I decided to quit smoking again, as a gift to myself and to my girlfriend. Within a month – and after 8 years of remission – the colitis returned, as bloody and disruptive as ever. I went to see a gastroenterologist and, during the course of the appointment, off-handedly remarked that I had quit smoking. He looked at me and said, “Oh. That’s why your colitis is back."

Despite widespread stigmatization of smoking cigarettes, the use of electronic cigarettes is on the rise nationwide. Electronic cigarettes, better known as e-cigarettes, simulate smoking by vaporizing a liquid solution containing nicotine and often added flavors.
“There’s emerging research that they’re much less risky than cigarettes,” said David Abrams, executive director of the Schroeder Institute for Tobacco Research and Policy Studies at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. This is because e-cigarettes don’t burn the tobacco, and thus produce less of the major carcinogens present in conventional cigarettes, he said.
Our friend Blake Brown from Guide To Vaping recently created a new website called Vaping Gear. Vaping Gear is awesome because a typical user can easily become the star of the show. What I mean by that is, Vaping Gear allows you to easily post content that you find interesting, and that content winds up on the front page of the site. Not to mention, you can easily log in by using Facebook or Twitter.
Under the law, health insurers may ask whether applicants use tobacco four or more times per week — and the companies can charge higher premiums if the answer is “yes.” That might sound like an acceptable policy. Why shouldn’t smokers pay more when they cost the health care system more than non-smokers?
The answer is, because it raises serious questions about where the practice of singling out certain individuals ends.
Frequent readers of Vape Squad have probably noticed that we tend to review a lot more mechanical mods than we do variable voltage/variable wattage devices. The most significant reason for that is primarily just because there are so few good VV/VW devices out there. With the rise in popularity of mechanical mods in the last year or so, manufacturers (with the notable exception of Chinese firms such as Innokin) seem to have shied away from devices with embedded electronics.
Unless you’ve been living under a rock the past few days, you’ve likely heard about the EU Ecig Ban that’s cropped back up again. Twitter is exploding with #euecigban, and it’s been absolutely glorious to watch.
Even though I’m an American, I truly feel for our friends in the EU member nations. Also, the FDA is certainly waiting with baited breath for the result. Nothing would help their cause more than having precedence set by our respected allies.

I just finished the translation for international communities — for your info or, if you want to circulate it or bring it to the attention of your national press, fine, go ahead.
American Council on Science and Health executive director Dr. Gilbert Ross was among individuals speaking in support of the products. According to Ross, “E-cigarettes have the potential to be a public health miracle.” Not only may they offer a far less harmful option to individuals seeking nicotine, but electronic cigarette could offer the kind of one-step-at-a-time smoking cessation path many smokers need in order to quit.
Ross was just one of many voices speaking in support of open and fair regulation of the devices. To clarify, few are actually advocating an electronic cigarette market sans any regulation in the U.S. Most simply hope that officials will design regulation appropriate to what is rapidly proving to be far less harmful than tobacco cigarettes.
SALT LAKE CITY — Lawmakers, school districts and parents have all raised concerns about e-cigarettes falling into the hands of young people, but former lifetime smokers say the devices have saved their lives.
"Vapers" are standing by the products as Utah legislators look to potentially add new regulations in the 2014 session, while saying they agree with some of the prospective reforms.
"This is going to save my family's lives and mine," said Candy Kerr. "That's how strongly I feel about it."
