Many teachers in many classrooms spend the majority of their time in the basement of the taxonomy, never really addressing or developing the higher order thinking skills that kids need to develop. We end up with rote and boring classrooms. Rote and boring curriculum. Much of today’s standardized testing rigorously tests the basement, further anchoring the focus of learning at the bottom steps, which is not beneficial for our students. Via Ann S. Michaelsen

I’ve spent a lot of time on this blog lately reflecting on Big Education ideas. During that time, my little buddy the iPad has felt a little neglected and unloved. So I thought I’d get back to talking about everybody’s “favourite little tablet that could”. Today, I want to explore the possibilities the iPad has as a tool for researching information. Cathy Davidson: "“What’s clear is that it is time to move beyond the initial experimental stages and start thinking of mobile as a platform for organizational performance. … The time to get on top of mobile is now, as the market has matured to the point where we can see real benefits on a pragmatic basis.”
"...we shouldn't stick with "flipping" the classroom. We should use the technologies available to "make it do cartwheels....That requires not the passive receiving of content from a teacher (the flipping model doesn't change that) but students being actively engaged in the production, transmission, and broadcasting of knowledge--co-teaching, co-learning, co-researching." "When teaching search to students, chances are the first item on the agenda is “Google“. This is fair enough. Google is the dominant player in search and in my opinion, for general search, it does the best job round. But there are many, many more options out there. Each catering for a specific need and each offering a different experience, media and results for students searching online."

Today everybody should know that social media are much more than a mode effect. This excellent post will convince you, if you aren't yet. [note mg]
Social media is more than a digital water cooler for TV and movies. The global conversation that takes place around events and the experiences people share based on what they watch teaches us about consumer preferences. More importantly, their activity influences behavior. Behavior counts for everything. Studying it is just the beginning of course. In order to understand and eventually steer behavior, we must translate activity into insights and in turn, translate insights into actionable strategies and programs.
According to the study, 88% of respondents view social networking sites like Twitter and Facebook as a new form of entertainment.
