Since Xtranormal ceased trading last year .. I have searched the web for a replacement without much success.  However, Plotagon runs a good close second; it is a tool that lets anyone create an animated movie directly from a written screenplay. Write your story, choose actors, environments and music. Press play and your movie is done. It's that simple.

I am piloting it now it's completely free and currently in beta stage, but you can start using it right now.

After my experiences with Scratch it is definitely a resource that you could use with students. I did find parts of it challenging, however this is because it is completely new to me. If students were introduced to programming at an early stage it would not appear so daunting to them.
Katrina Elliott's comment, May 13, 2013 6:15 AM
I found that it would be a suitable design resource for high school students. I found it challenging, however very engaging and addictive. I am unsure how this would benefit all students, as it was difficult in some areas to program and get perfect. Personally, I wouldn't use this program within my classroom.

Cartoons are a very interesting and powerful way to teach and especially for learners when the creator of the cartoons knows how to use them on an efficient way...

Gust MEES: e.g.: create cartoons on a "dialogue way" so you can display the questions your learners asked you and you give the answers also as the "master avatar" in your cartoons, visually learning... As people don't have anymore that much time to learn and are stressed, cartoons are THAT way to teach... Time saving, but efficient ;)

I use cartoons also for teaching IT-Security, check here:

5 Things People Must Change About The Way They Lead

5 Things People Must Change About The Way They Lead | Uso seguro de la red | Scoop.it

Leadership is about sharing, giving – making those around you better.   Leadership is about uniting and inspiring teams to optimally perform.   Leadership is caring about a societal cause that the business can influence.  This is what most businesses refer to as corporate social responsibility.

Leadership is indeed a social responsibility, yet many people are out of touch with how to be an effective leader.   Many people believe that because they carry an important title or have tenure within the organization, others will automatically follow them.

Today, leadership is much more than just authority – it’s about being ethical and staying true to your beliefs and values.

Steve Urquhart's curator insight, May 1, 2013 8:19 AM

If you can’t be clear about what you stand for, it will be impossible for you to lead with clarity.

Rik Stegehuis's curator insight, May 8, 2013 12:05 AM

My interpretation of Leadership that I like to share with you today is that Leadership begins within ourselves first, before anything else.

How can we be a true, authentic and integrated leader if we do not really know who we are? Ask yourself right now: WHO am I ? It's not as easy as you think, because I am sure you end up giving answers to WHAT am I or WHAT do I do? That's the way we were programmed to answer: it reflects WHAT we are on the outside, not WHO we are on the inside. Get the point?

Bring this into your personal life, become a leader of yourself first. Then become the leader of your own life. Live your live on your terms, not on someone else's...

To get started on this, take some time for yourself without any distractions, in a different place than your usually are and reflect. Write down (with a pen and paper) what your Personal Vision is (your WHY), your Personal Mission (your WHAT) and your Personal Values and Principles (HOW) and be surprised about yourself what's coming up to the surface...DO IT and HAVE FUN!

9 Tools to Create E-magazines and Newspapers for Your Class | Uso seguro de la red | Scoop.it

I am pretty sure as you introduce the idea to your students everyone will want to have a say in their next e-magazine. There is nothing much more rewarding to students then to have a proof of their hard work recognized in a publication of some sort.

Most of the tools cited here are easy to use and have user friendly interface and they will let you create your own e-magazine or newspaper in few simple steps. Yet I would recommend your discretion as you use them with your students.

Understanding the Value of Curation for Education: Nancy White

Understanding the Value of Curation for Education: Nancy White | Uso seguro de la red | Scoop.it

Robin Good: What does curation mean from an educational viewpoint? And what is the key difference between "collecting" and "curating".

Nancy White (@NancyW), a 21st Century Learning & Innovation Specialist and the author of Innovations in Education blog, has written an excellent article, dissecting the key characterizing traits of curation, as a valuable resource to create and share knowledge.

She truly distills some key traits of curation in a way that is clear and comprehensible to anyone.

She writes: "The first thing I realized is that in order to have value-added benefits to curating information, the collector needs to move beyond just classifying the objects under a certain theme to deeper thinking through a) synthesis and b) evaluation of the collected items.

How are they connected?"

Excellent definition.

And then she also frames perfectly the relevance of "context" for any meaningful curation project by writing: "I believe when we curate, organization moves beyond thematic to contextual – as we start to build knowledge and understanding with each new resource that we curate.

Themes have a common unifying element – but don’t necessarily explain the “why.”

Theme supports a central idea – Context allows the learner to determine why that idea (or in this case, resource) is important.

So, as collecting progresses into curating, context becomes essential to determine what to keep, and what to discard."

But there's a lot more insight distilled in this article as Nancy captures with elegance the difference between collecting for a personal interest and curating for a specific audience.

She finally steals my full endorsement for this article by discretely inquirying how great a value it would be to allow students to "curate" the domains of interest they need to master.

Excellent. Highly recommended. 9/10
