10 Free Tools for Building Blended & Online Learning

10 Free Tools for Building Blended & Online Learning | Educational Technology: Google Tips, Open Access, Libraries and Reading (and a few interesting articles) | Scoop.it
Remember though that finding the right tool is important, but how you structure and design interaction with the content is way more important. Taking classroom activities and materials and placing them on a web-based platform and expecting them to work is sure way to disappoint students. You need to think carefully about how the student will engage with the materials and how the materials relate to each other to ensure that your materials don’t just test the students’ knowledge and abilities, but that they guide and enable the student to hypothesise and make and confirm deductions in order to encourage deeper levels of autonomous learning.

10 Useful Tools to Craft Beautiful Graphics for Social Media

10 Useful Tools to Craft Beautiful Graphics for Social Media | Educational Technology: Google Tips, Open Access, Libraries and Reading (and a few interesting articles) | Scoop.it

Visuals are the currency of sharing on social media. Text-only updates can only convey so much and get so far. Here are 3 stats that prove the worth of creating graphics.

First, 66% of all social media posts are or include images.

Second, forget native visual platforms, like Instagram and Pinterest, that allow photo sharing. In 2013, Facebook became the largest photo sharing website, with its users uploading 350 million photos every day.

Third, use of images was rated as the most important social media optimization tactic, in a 2014 survey by Adobe and Software Advice.

And, it’s not just limited to social media…Content with relevant visuals also gets 94% more views than content without. Even social media platforms now focus on images in their redesigns....

Niftio - A whole presentation platform for professionals

Niftio - A whole presentation platform for professionals | Educational Technology: Google Tips, Open Access, Libraries and Reading (and a few interesting articles) | Scoop.it

Niftio is a web-based presentation app which provides the user with a library of professionally-looking templates, photos, shapes and charts, that can be fully edited and customized and with a set of easy-to-use functions that make presentation-building much easier and faster to execute.

Presentations can be easily shared or downloaded in HTML5 or PDF formats, and during live presentations you can also remote control the playback of your presentation from any device, check your notes and keep track of how much time you have left.

Finally Niftio allows the viewers of your presentations to send you feedback and comments, and it provides full analytics stats for your published slideshows.

Free version.

My comment: Excellent alternative to traditional presentation tools, it offers great templates and visual resources and nifty tools for public presenters that do make a difference.Try it out now: http://app.niftio.com

PLNing Development: The (d)evolution of Twitter | Educational Technology: Google Tips, Open Access, Libraries and Reading (and a few interesting articles) | Scoop.it
Now, the ability to analyse, reflect on and adapt my practice is part of who I am as an educator. Instead of looking to the Twittersphere for inspiration and help, I look at how I can connect and share ideas with the teachers in my own staffroom. It's smaller scale but it is just as effective. Without those experiences on Twitter, I would probably not engage in local small-scale CPD in the same way.

How to Create an Infographic in Under an Hour [+10 Free Templates]

How to Create an Infographic in Under an Hour [+10 Free Templates] | Educational Technology: Google Tips, Open Access, Libraries and Reading (and a few interesting articles) | Scoop.it

Wouldn't it be great if creating infographics was just as simple as writing regular ole text-based blog posts? Unfortunately, the reality is that making visual content like this usually takes a lot more time, effort, and let's face it -- skill -- than the written word.

Usually. But considering the popularity and effectiveness of visual content in marketing today, you can't just afford to throw in the towel. That's why we decided to take all the pain and suffering out of infographic creation.

Seriously -- don't throw in the towel just yet. You, too, can create professional-looking, high-quality infographics ... quickly! And I'm going to prove it. First things first ...
