Costs $149 but could be worth it if an institution purchases or if you create a lot of iBooks. Interesting to add when creating iBooks.

Richard Seal's curator insight, April 24, 2013 6:02 AM

Very interesting. I may have to see if I can make this happen for next year.

Alfred App V2 Basics - Finding files with Alfred

David Allen Wizardgold's insight:

one of the ways to get extra capabilities and functions when using your Mac is to use third-party applications such as AlfredApp. I have heard that launch bar is a fairly decent application for launching apps on your Mac, but I think that Alfred in version 2 gets the edge, especially with its new workflows.

David Allen Wizardgold's insight:

I am really pleased that I found out about that small bug which means that the Text Expander application has to be turned off before using DragonDictate in any other application other than in its own dictation window. This makes Dragon dictate much more usable and useful with all of things that I do on my computer.

David Allen Wizardgold's insight:

This is an interesting application for editing audio on your Mac and I got to have a look at it because I have been using the version of it on the iPad and iPhone. I think that the version for the Mac is too expensive and for the price should be a multitrack recorder, but it isn't it just does a single track. On the other hand you can add extra channels, but this is not quite the same as being able to edit multitracks.

Although I think this application looks good and works well, for what it does, for the moment I will not be changing from my preferred Mac audio editor which is Amadeus Pro.

David Allen Wizardgold's insight:

There are plenty of applications at therefore adding effects with filters to photos, but this one will also allow you to add effects to video. One of the effects reminds me of the animated style of video for the film 'A Scanner Darkly'.

There are occasions when you want to have a weird and wonderful effect applied to either a photo or a video and this application will do that for you on your iPad. I had a bit of fun trying it out and you have filters such as grunge, marble, black pencil and the wonderfully named 'Life on Mars'. It doesn't get better than that, does it?

David Allen Wizardgold's insight:

I am looking at ways that you can use the postings that you make into the social networks such as Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and Foursquare as a journal. Using an application like Everyday.me or Social Diary you can do this and you can also add extra notes for items that you don't want to make completely public.

My favourite journalling application at the moment is Day One and it would be rather nice if they were to have a function where you could bring in your Twitter and Facebook postings to augment your normal journalling. Most of the time I use this application on my Mac, but it is also very handy to have this on my iPhone and my iPad.

Convert your vinyl LP's to digital tracks to put on CD or into iTunes (with tweets) · Wizardgold

There are record players that you can get now that will connect up to your computer using USB or you can connect up with a line in and record your old crackly records.
David Allen Wizardgold's insight:

There comes a time when you have to get that vinyl and turn them into digital files that you can add into iTunes or maybe even put onto a CD. Here we have a video in which I show you how to take a single recording that is one side of your LP and turn it into separate files ready to burn on a CD. I also show you how you can add some of the meta data so that you have the song titles and album title along with the album art ready to go in iTunes.

Using Dragon Voice Recognition to Control your Mac

Using Dragon Voice Recognition to Control your Mac | Using the Mac | Scoop.it
The Dragon voice recognition application DragonDictate is absolutely marvellous for controlling your Mac as well as for converting speech to text.

Three videos looking at some of the things you can do with Dragon Dictate aside from being able to convert your speech into text. Controlling the Finder works well and telling the DD app itself is great too. I found the commands for the Mail App not so reliable but still Dragon Dictate is pretty amazing.
