This site offers an insight into the world of the designer.  It showcases six different designers – graphic, interior, wetlands, product, jewellery & homewares, and visual effects – and provides an overview of their work, their design process, how they evaluate success and also a gallery of their work.  This is a great site as it allows students to see the design process and the associated end products in a real life context from real life designers.

PBS Kids Design Squad offers a variety of technology resources including videos, games, guides and lesson plans.  Students can participate in activities that require them to design and build different items including a 4-wheeled ballon car, a cardboard machine that runs smoothly and dependably, and a robotic arm that can lift a cup off a table. These activities are not only highly engaging and fun, they are extremely relevant to the Technologies Curriculum.

This is a fantastic resource that shows how design and technology can be used to modify and adapt everyday items to meet the needs or demands of specific audiences.  Through identification of user constraints and issues these items and products are re-designed or enhanced to make them user friendly.  This resource is a wonderful example of technology in action and similar product re-design activities and projects could be a great way to implement technology in the classroom.

Design and technology are a large part of the Australian Technology Curriculum and this site provides some fantastic activities that can help to successfully engage students with the curriculum requirements.  In addition to the fun, challenging and hands on activities, the site also provides teachers with additional resources, videos, and lesson ideas.  This is one of the best design and technology resources I have found to date.

30 years ago the Macintosh or ‘the computer that changed everything” was created.  This historical timeline is an interesting and informative way for students to gain an insight into the progression of technology of the past 30 years, as well as what has lead to the vast technological changes that have impacted on one of the worlds leading brands of computers. With many of us (including our students) owning or knowing someone who owns an Apple product, this is an engaging and authentic way for students to examine the social and ethical considerations of the Macintosh development and investigate how it has evolved through creativity, innovation and enterprise.

Wonderful ideas utilising many digital technologies to promote blooms taxonomy in the contemporary classroom. Digital resources are displayed and linked to relevant blooms taxonomies. A great resource to keep handy in the classroom and an excellent guide in implementing blooms taxonomy through ICT and modern technologies.
