According to USA Today, Zeeland Public Schools in western Michigan has decided to give an iPad to every one of its 1,800 high school students as part of a new program. Educators’ longer-term plan is for every student in grades 3–12 to have an iPad in their hands.

Speak It is a Google Chrome extension that enables you to have the text on most webpages read to you. With Speak It installed just highlight the text on a the page you're viewing then right-click to activate Speak It.
"Speak Up" is a straightforward cartoon-creator site meant to teach the importance of character, setting, problem, and solution. The site provides possible characters, settings, and conflicts from which students can choose. Creating cartoons is an effective way to teach students how to write stories with a clear storyline and structure.
It's not always about technology, we need a balance. Good idea to jump start students writing a personal narrative.
Memoir Writing Prompt
1. There are many ways to get a fresh perspective. They all help you look at details in a new way. Assume you are going to write about your home (this could be, instead, a favorite childhood doll, your son or daughter, the day you got married, your first job — just pick something you would like to write about today). Imagine that you climb up a 50 foot tree that has suddenly appeared at the edge of your property. Write what the house (or whatever you have chosen) looks like from this vantage point.
Adam S. Bellow, author of The Tech Commandments, and founder of eduTecher, spoke to a roomful of receptive teachers at the recent ISTE 2011 conference, and demonstrated some of the ironies and contradictions the education system is mired in. And he had some advice.
Wow! All I can say is wow. It all feels a little overwhelming but, I remind myself that I don't have to use all of them. If I find 1 or 2 that are relevant then I can try something else later. Very cool!
