Provide Your Directions in a Google Doc

Provide Your Directions in a Google Doc | Using Google Drive in the classroom | Scoop.it
I have found that over the tenure of my teaching career I am not always as clear as I think I am. Inevitably at least a few students will misunderstand my directions or I accidentally leave out a d...
Gerald Carey's insight:

Here is a nice idea for when you create a set of instructions for an assignment or project on Google Docs and share that document with all the students in your class. Instead of only allowing students to 'view' the document, allow them to comment!

This simple change will allow student to clarify the instructions AND, as a bonus, this will be available to ALL students.

We could even go further and discuss, clarify AND modify the assessment criteria with students!

Google Drive & Research Essays: Monitoring the Writing Process

Google Drive & Research Essays: Monitoring the Writing Process | Using Google Drive in the classroom | Scoop.it

Even though I am "techy," I always espouse that it's never technology all the time. In fact, my classroom is always a hybrid environment. As such, my students write traditional research essays. As we recently implemented Google Apps for Education at Ransom Everglades School, I elected to do the entire writing and revision process within Google Drive. Here is how I chunked out the process and used Google Drive to better track my students’ writing process.

Google Docs: Grading Tips & Tricks

Google Docs: Grading Tips & Tricks | Using Google Drive in the classroom | Scoop.it

Google docs has made it possible for me to go paperless. The decision to remove paper from my life has been liberating! Whenever I train teachers, I share my enthusiasm for a paperless classroom. My cries of joy and excitement are sometimes met with grunts and skeptical looks.

Gerald Carey's insight:

Great use of Google docs to grade student work.

Really like the idea of having common editing comments in the list of automatic inserts.

Also really like the idea of having a common set of grading comments handy in another file. Of course, you can do that with Word, but Caitlin's suggestion of linking those comments to explanatory videos is a terrific idea (see above example).
