Review: Cometdocs for Google Drive | Drive Bunny | Using Google Drive in the classroom | Scoop.it

Google Drive tries hard to help you convert files between formats, as I’ve discussed in previous posts. Sometimes, though, you need to perform a conversion that’s too much for Drive – of a particularly large file, say, or a conversion between formats that Drive can’t perform.

Gerald Carey's insight:

What Drive Bunny said!

This post includes a how-to and some examples of the end result.

FirsVIDEO: You won't believe how easy it is to add these sophisticated features to your charts in Google Sheets.

Gerald Carey's insight:

This looks really interesting.

The first example show you how to add data to maps.  So if you have population information, you could add it to a world map (or even a country) and show a colour range indicating the range of data - like conditional formatting.

Then the video also talks about labeling data points on a chart and including projected data on a chart.

Well introduced and information that could be very useful for Maths and Geography teachers.

Free Technology for Teachers: New Animation Options Added to Google Slides

Free Technology for Teachers: New Animation Options Added to Google Slides | Using Google Drive in the classroom | Scoop.it

The latest update to Google Slides introduces more animation options. Now you can have objects simply appear or disappear in your slides on your click. Previously objects had to fade or fly in or out. Speaking of the fly in option, you can now set the direction from which objects fly onto your slides.

Gerald Carey's insight:

Richard covers it pretty well. It's only a minor update but, hopefully, a sign of things to come.

Create A Free Project Management System From Scratch

Create A Free Project Management System From Scratch | Using Google Drive in the classroom | Scoop.it
If you're a startup, chances are you're looking to find cheaper ways of managing your workflow. Nicholas Lemieux explains how to create a project management system from scratch
Gerald Carey's insight:

Although aimed at business, this post describes a link between Google Forms (and the collected responses in Google Sheets) and a product called Trello that will organise the responses in a more useful format.  So, if you are seeking sentence or paragraph length responses from your students and want to see their responses on a student-by-student basis (rather than question-by-question basis) this could be useful.

Warning: There are 18 steps involved so not for the fainthearted.

The post also introduced me to a new product called Zapier which allows data to be transferred from one application (e.g. Google Sheets) to another (e.g. Trello)

Digital Literacy Dover: Formative Assessment with Google Forms and a Video

Digital Literacy Dover: Formative Assessment with Google Forms and a Video | Using Google Drive in the classroom | Scoop.it

A great hint I learned last year from a colleague Steve Voster at UWCSEA, is to repurpose a Google Form to help students engage with a simple video tutorial.

Gerald Carey's insight:

This is great and I don't do this enough.

However, I do show a lot of short videos and this is an excellent example of how to get feedback from students.

It has an example, some responses from students and a how-to video.

In fact, now that I think about it, it could be used for excerpts from texts, graph analysis and deconstruction of images.
