A lot of the value of Google Drive comes from how quickly we can identify and access exactly what we’re looking for. While creating a folder structure can serve as a great foundation to Drive, we’ve found that many people fail to maintain these folders, making search a much more efficient option.

Gerald Carey's insight:

How to use "title", "owner", "type" and "is:starred" as search operators within Google Drive.

G-learning: Tips for easier (anonymous) collaboration in Google Drive

G-learning: Tips for easier (anonymous) collaboration in Google Drive | Using Google Drive in the classroom | Scoop.it
Gerald Carey's insight:

Some good tips on how to get students to work on ONE document collaboratively.

All aspects are covered - forms, sheets and docs.

The author creates the documents, shares it publicly with the whole class, and then assigns part of the document to one student.

I have used this idea to collect data on students (e.g. reaction times) but give each student a number. Each student goes to the link and adds information anonymously to the relevant number.

When everybody is finished, they log on as normal and take a copy of the class data.

G-learning: Tips on how to quickly collect email addresses with Google Forms

G-learning: Tips on how to quickly collect email addresses with Google Forms | Using Google Drive in the classroom | Scoop.it

A common problem I hear from teachers is collecting email addresses from their students. Even though the school might provide the students with email addresses they might use a different address and never check the one given to them by the school. As a result, teacher often have to make new lists for their students’ email addresses. Two of the most common methods are: having the students enter their email addresses into a spreadsheet on the teacher’s PC or passing around a sheet of paper for the students to enter  their addresses. Neither of these methods is very efficient, as the first one takes up a lot of class time and the second one is time consuming because the teacher has to type the information into a spreadsheet.

Gerald Carey's insight:

A very clear "how-to" collect student email addresses by using Google Forms.  How to send the Google Forms link- the article show you five ways to do it!

Google Docs is a user friendly collection of versatile ‘real time’ online collaborative tools.

Google Docs is an online word processor that allows users to collaborate and create text documents.

Google Sheets is an online spreadsheet app that permits

collaborators to create and format spreadsheets.

Google Slides allow developers to collaborate and show off their work in a visual way.

Seems to me Google have everything covered!

Google Docs would work very well for older students who are required to work together online to develop and manage

project plans.
