Create Direct Links to your Files on Google Drive

Create Direct Links to your Files on Google Drive | Using Google Drive in the classroom | Scoop.it
Learn how to create direct links to your files and documents on Google Drive that will download the file instead of opening them in the browser.
Gerald Carey's insight:

Interesting article on how files in Google Drive can be downloaded instead of being viewed (using the inbuilt Google Docs viewer).  If you are prepared to do some work, the article even shows you how to create a link which will download and open a Docs file straight into Word, a Presentation file into Excel, etc.

Not for the beginner but it might save a little confusion if you are sharing a file with students where some prefer to use Word.

Google Drive Blog: Edit charts in Google spreadsheets with just a click

Google Drive Blog: Edit charts in Google spreadsheets with just a click | Using Google Drive in the classroom | Scoop.it

Charts tell the story of our data, so we often spend a lot of time getting the formatting just right. That’s why we wanted to make that process quicker and easier in Google spreadsheets. Instead of opening the chart editor dialog to make formatting changes, you can now click directly on the part of the chart you want to modify to change things like the colors, legend, and labels.

(Hat tip to the Free Technology for Teachers site for first alerting me to this. Go here: http://www.freetech4teachers.com/2012/09/one-click-chart-editing-in-google.html#.UFl5go3ibU0
