This is a very niche post which only mentions Google Docs in passing as a way to collaborate. What is of interest is how to write a Science Paper. The post goes into a lot of detail and it is something that other science teachers and students might find interesting. It also mentions using Paperpile to help find resources - although it's not free.

Updated recently and a bonus for science and maths teachers.

Add formulas into a Google Document through a formula window or directly using Latex.

If the link does not work, look up "Formula Editor" in Google Add-ons.

Probably not as good as g(Math) though.

Inquiry-based Learning with Google Docs Presentation - YouTube

Students engage in a lesson with an online presentation and chat feature using Google Apps. Google Docs Presentation and Forms were used to create the lesson...

Although this was done in 2010 and so is probably out of date, the process looks intriguing. Students follow a series of videos and then, in the Docs chat box, give explanations for what is happening. Once this is finished, they do an online quiz using Google Forms. Not original but good to see it in action.
