One application that sometimes gets overlooked, though, is Google Sheets. Yeah, we know, spreadsheets aren’t the most fun or fascinating tool to play with, but there are powerful possibilities for using Google Sheets in education.

Gerald Carey's insight:

Although this article starts out more like a 'how to use Google Sheets' introductory post, near the end the author has a list of suggestions on how to use this app in the classroom. The how-to part is well done with lots of clear examples including how to collaborate, how to organise files and how to use Google Forms with Sheets.

A reasonably good post that could be used to introduce Sheets to your school.

Google Makes it Easier to Navigate Long Docs

Google Makes it Easier to Navigate Long Docs | Using Google Drive in the classroom | Scoop.it
Now you can quickly jump from section to section, without having to scroll through pages and pages.
Gerald Carey's insight:
Great for lengthy documents, this tool is not yet available for everyone (including me) but it is something I would like to trial sooner rather than later. I write lengthy curriculum documents for my school and sometimes have two windows open in different parts so that I can get a overview of the whole document.  This outline view means that I can quickly go to different parts of a document and help make that document more coherent.
The same would be true for student work. The outline can be created by the application or by the user thus making it easier for students to use. Students could also be shown how to create an outline first and then they can easily fill in the gaps.
It looks like it could be a very powerful addition to our work in schools.
