Mr Byrne shows us how to use Google Docs and it's comments feature to analyse primary documents from sources such as the Yale University's Avalon project.  I have done this myself but mainly with assignments where I ask students to highlight a part of the assignment and then ask clarifying questions. Since all students can view the document, everyone gets access to the answers!

From the G Suite for Education blog.  Here is a list of features that attempt to anticipate what you want when sending messages to students or creating new questions in Forms. It seems like this is the way that Google is going with their apps. You can assign actions to students and it automatically sets up a message for that student.  You can create a type of question in Forms that might include days of the week and it will set up a check box option with days of the week in it!

Share part of a document with particular people. The author gives us a fairly detailed tutorial on how to do this in Google Docs. The mind boggles at how this can be used in the classroom.  You could have a list of assignment questions given to individuals (or groups); or parts of a reading assignment which the individual (or group) need to summarise or analyse and then feedback to you as a teacher.  Any others?
(Update: it works with Sheets and Slides as well. Slides might be useful if you flip your class and want students to explain part of a presentation viewed for homework)

An electronic variation on a comprehension exercise usually done with photocopies of newspaper or magazine articles.  The author takes you through a detail set of instructions. I have recently done a source analysis with students and this could be a handy first step - particularly for readers that struggle to comprehend a large document. 
It could also be a useful revision technique - students identify content that is important to learn and black out the rest.

I'm not sure I agree with everything that the writer says about group projects but I agree that using Google Docs and Slides helps.  I have used this with great effect when we have group presentations because it showed me (in File: Revision History) who did some work, when they did and how long they did it for.
The best I have seen is when a group of four came up with a script for a play in about half the time it normally takes simply because they could all work on the one document at the same time.
