California Assistant Principal of the Year From USF

California Assistant Principal of the Year From USF | USF Alumni | Scoop.it

We expect educators to do more than teach our kids to read and write and do arithmetic. These days, we also want them to protect our kids, to mentor our kids, and to counsel our kids through personal and family troubles. We want them to be more than educators, which is exactly what USF's Cynthia Rapaido MA ’96, EdD ’11 is. She’s been named California’s assistant principal of the year.

“I’m the first person in my family to graduate from high school, let alone college, let alone a Master’s program. I kicked in every single door, and now all my kids have to do is walk through it.”

"Allison Domicone, Champion for Akili Dada in Kenya"

"Allison Domicone, Champion for Akili Dada in Kenya" | USF Alumni | Scoop.it

"Change the world from here. The slogan begins monthly newsletters, ends emails, and is printed on bookstore t-shirts. Quite simply, the slogan is everywhere on the University of San Francisco campus. Students are constantly reminded that we are expected to be a positive, influential force in the world and to be frank, it is rather daunting. How the 4 blocks between Fulton and Geary have an impact the world? We are here and the world is, well, there. Despite any perceived difficulties, there are examples of USF grads who are really living up to the school's motto. Allison Domicone, class of '10, is one of those individuals.

Among other impressive things, Domicone is currently a One World Champion to Akili Dada, a non-profit organization based in Kenya. This organization, founded by USF associate professor, Wanjiru Kamau-Rutenberg, is a leadership incubator for women and provides training, mentorships, and scholarships to some of the most brilliant young women in Kenya."
