Juergen Bartel's insight:

an educational use I just love! Use their love for games to teach them something. Reminds me of a friend who studies to become a teacher. They had a class, where they played Assasins Creed to learn about the historical backrounds of the game and the country it's playing in. How ingenious! Evereybody loved that class, because they highly enjoyed learning that way.

Juergen Bartel's insight:

wow, a really good short movie about a very distopic future in a gamified world. Well, we don't want to get that extreme, although with current technology progressing as fast as it does now, you never know how improbable that future actually is.

Martin (Marty) Smith's curator insight, January 18, 2013 7:31 AM

Great insight from "gamer" Richard Bartle on gamification and how to gamify. Bartle continues the call for video game designers to get involved in gamification. I support this idea.

I think we make better gamification when or if game designers are involved. Any game designer reading this that would like to help with gamification please contact me at Atlantic BT. My email is Martin.Smith(at)AtlanticBT.com.

Going to the gym for an hour is 2 red points. Calling my mom is 1 blue point while calling Aunt Deborah is 5 blue points because, honestly, Aunt Deb's sort of a pain to talk to and sometimes she says crazy inappropriate things.
Juergen Bartel's insight:

On a positive note to use the gamification concept in your daily live, let's say to fight procrastination and get chores done or do more sports. Here is a guy who did just that, he turned his chores and activities into quests and attached point to each of them. Read for yourself and you might want to try it out yourself.

Fitbit has moved past the clip-on fitness tracker.
Juergen Bartel's insight:

Gamification and Fitness. This little rubber sensor band is amazing and will motivate you to run and bike more, instead of using your car. Link it with your smartphone and keep up to date with your achievements (which are indicated by the little lights on the fit bit flex.

Same concept, but with more gameplay functions are out there as well. I very much like this idea.

Earlier today on Bunchball’s blog, the gamification purveyor has announced the release of Bunchball Nitro for IBM Connections.
Juergen Bartel's insight:

This looks like a good gamification software. It can be used in online communities to motivate a certain behaviour. I can imagine this as a way to create interest groups/communities, which like to live a more sustainable life, but who are missing a supportive environment or the knowledge.
