Facebook Building Major Artificial Intelligence System To Understand Who We Are

Facebook is developing deep learning software to understand what its users say and do online

Meaningful artificial intelligence has been the aim of computer science since Alan Turing first imagined, in the 1950s, a computer that “passed” as human. Hollywood movies began shortly thereafter to depict computers with human-like intelligence. But, like so many things, artificial intelligence has been much harder to achieve in reality than in the movies.

But following research breakthroughs about five years ago, leading tech companies, including Microsoft, IBM and Google, have begun investing big money in artificial intelligence applications.

Talk about a contrversial topic here guys, as always someone wants to know more about us, even so much to develop their own artificial intelligence system to do so. Ever heard of privacy? How far is too far?

2012 Corruption Perceptions Index ~ Transparency International

2012 Corruption Perceptions Index ~ Transparency International | Controversy Kid | Scoop.it

"Looking at the Corruption Perceptions Index 2012, it's clear that corruption is a major threat facing humanity. Corruption destroys lives and communities, and undermines countries and institutions. It generates popular anger that threatens to further destabilise societies and exacerbate violent conflicts.

"The Corruption Perceptions Index scores countries on a scale from 0 (highly corrupt) to 100 (very clean). While no country has a perfect score, two-thirds of countries score below 50, indicating a serious corruption problem."

From Smartphones to Smart Everything: Welcome to the 'Smart' Revolution

From Smartphones to Smart Everything: Welcome to the 'Smart' Revolution | Controversy Kid | Scoop.it
Marketing Strategy - We are about to move from an age of smartphones... to an era of smart everything. And in this era, technology will not only change how we market our brands ...

Christina "CK" Kerley not only opens your eyes into the reality of smart technology, but challenges Marketers/Brands to "wise" up too!

"In readying for 2014, the Web is abuzz over wearable technologies, smart gadgets, and intelligent machines—yet it's currently devoid of guidance for the brand builders themselves. It's ironic, considering that the role of marketers will be among the most affected by tomorrow's smarter world.

For it is our brands that will face the biggest battles in the coming race for smart market share. And it is our target audiences who will demand better, faster and easier solutions in a 21st century smarter marketplace.

Moreover, it is our companies that will be competing against the likes of both David and Goliath, as smart technologies will bolster the already formidable Fortune 500s as well as catalyze a cadre of new entrants. (Many of them are moving at warp speed—from idea to market in 30 days—due to crowdfunding platforms like Kickstarter)."

Where do you see the greatest challenges for companies today?

How likely are we to see new companies take over well established brands?

Thanks Christina for sharing your insights and we'll look forward to part 2 next week!

Gay Parents Are Like '5-Year-Olds Who Think They Can Drive Cars,' Apostle ...
Huffington Post
... off on a controversial study about gay parenting, which claimed to find disadvantages for children raised by same-sex parents.
Kevin Au's insight:

Gay Marriage, an already controversial issue, but now that it has grown and become legal in over 10 states many people have begun to critize it further. In this article Apostle Paul Rodger has made many discriminating and controversial comments about Gay parents ability to have and raise children."Well, we have 5-year-olds who think they can drive cars but the reality is there is a certain way that things are structured and there are certain things that are in order."That is just one of the many obsurd comments Paul made in his live interview on Fox. A controversial man in a very controversial topic defiinelty lit the powder keg and has sparked an insane amount of feedback, that hasnt be in favor towards our friend Paul the Apostle. In the scheme of things hes only one of thousands who share similar opinions but what can be learned from this? Should the government make a stand? How far is too far?

Kevin Au's insight:

Racial profiling has gone a long way since the civil rights movement more than 50 years ago. That being said it still hasn't gone too far from our culture. A couple weeks back a 19 year old named Trayon Christain was arrested after purchasing a $350 belt from world famous Barney's New York. This all occured after a clerk assumed the credit card Trayon used to purchase the belt was stolen. Now many celebrities are speaking out about the manner including Jay-Z in the scoopit article above. Very controversial topic, a issue with our culture that seems to be almost never ending. But who is at fault for these prejudices? The media? Us as a people? Who do we really point the finger that, that is the question.
