A Concept Twin-Tower Skyscraper In Hong Kong | The Architecture of the City | Scoop.it

Mexican design firm Studio Cachoua Torres Camilletti has designed and developed an ambitious concept that reimagines skyscrapers. 

The concept skyscraper, which is meant to be located in Hong Kong, is 92-stories-high and consists of two parts—for housing and for commerce that are linked by bridges for vehicles to transport commuters around the building itself. 

Aside from its fascinating structure, the architects also have an unusual plan to install rice paddies on the roof of the commercial side of the skyscraper. Additionally, they also proposed to use nuclear energy to power the building. 

Office space, retail shops and lifestyle amenities will occupy most of the commerce area, making it extremely convenient for residents. 

One of the architects, Adrian Cachoua Oropeza explained that “the farming on the top of the building is an important symbolic gesture as well as an environmental one,” as rice is a staple in Asian countries. 

This idea was submitted for the 2014 World Architecture Festival

Tonkin Zulaikha Greer collaborated with Taylor Cullity Lethlean to design The Village Centre for the National Arboretum in Canberra, Australia.


The architecture develops the long-standing tradition of significant garden buildings as transparent enclosures with dramatic internal volumes and sense of indoor-outdoor connection.

The exterior of the building is a sculptural form in the rolling topography of the site, contrasting low stone-clad wings with a high arching roof clad in weathered zinc, the form of which is inspired by the fronds of the adjoining forest of Chilean Wine Palms.

Internally, the innovative timber structure combines low environmental impact with a dramatic forest-like form, designed in a series of geometrical arcs.

The building incorporates a range of energy-saving measures, supporting the environmental value of the Arboretum as a whole, with a very low-energy envelope and structure.

A proposal imagines 300,000 housing units built into six hyper-energy efficient domes.

This year Istanbul Design Week goes back to the future with a very ambitious project: HavvAda, a cutting-edge net-positive-energy residential island conceptualized by New York-based Studio Dror.

HavvAda, will be built off the shore of Istanbul using excavated soil from a new massive canal planned between the Black Sea and the Sea of Marmara.

 

For the design, Dror has drawn on spatial geometry, as well as Buckminster Fuller’s legacy in structural engineering and Ebenezer Howard’s Garden City. Six months of intensive dialog with a team of experts have allowed Dror to realize an ambitious concept that offers a high quality of life and helps the environment.

The island is envisioned as a landscape of six residential hills, surrounding a circular valley dedicated to parks and recreation, supported by a mega-dome structure, allowing for a “three-dimensional grid” that aims to maximize energy and structural efficiency.
