Torsten Flaegel's insight:

In the global system, the poor countries of the world are said to have reached their steady state, an eternal inferior position in the global hierarchy, relegated to suppliers of cheap labour and raw materials. This unfair relationship creates a situation where wages are low among the workers, and the prices for the country’s products on the international markets are low because they are unprocessed goods.

Can Cities Help You Forget Your Troubles? C’mon, Get Happy! | PlaceMakers

Can Cities Help You Forget Your Troubles? C’mon, Get Happy! | PlaceMakers | urban designs | Scoop.it

In most physical and policy planning, triple bottom line benchmarks focus on environment and economy, and tend to skim over the subject of society. That’s probably because urban design impacts are much easier to measure with respect to profit and planet than they are with respect to people.

We reframed this worldwide event as a Pilot PARK(let) Project (repeat this three times) because we have two local Business Improvement Districts and a city council member working to allow for more bikeable and walkable facilities.

Pac-Manhattan is a large-scale urban game that utilizes the New York City grid to recreate the 1980's video game sensation Pac-Man. This analog version of Pac-man is being developed in NYU's Interactive Telecommunications graduate program, in order to explore what happens when games are removed from their "little world" of tabletops, televisions and computers and placed in the larger "real world" of street corners, and cities.

Torsten Flaegel's insight:

Plastic bags are useful, but terrible for the environment.
