Trump, Offering No Evidence, Says Obama Tapped His Phones

Trump, Offering No Evidence, Says Obama Tapped His Phones | Upsetment | Scoop.it
President Trump called former President Barack Obama a “bad (or sick) guy” as he leveled an explosive claim about election-season wiretapping.
Kenneth Weene's insight:
So either Mr. Obama is nefarious and Mr. Trump clearly never did anything wrong that might have been used against him during the campaign or Mr. Trump is paranoid, which would make him dangerous. I know which of those two scenarios I believe, what about you? Oh, or perhaps you have a third one that will make sense for the rest of us.

I don't know about you, but I would especially like to know what Mike Pence thinks, because he's the one who ultimately will have to go to the cabinet and...

Climate Change May Be Doubted by Some, But Now It’s the Law

Climate Change May Be Doubted by Some, But Now It’s the Law | Upsetment | Scoop.it
A federal court allows the Obama administration to incorporate the price of global destruction.
Kenneth Weene's insight:
It may only be a small, policy wonk step, but Mr. Obama has once again shown that he is aware of Climate Change while so many politicians want to play the ostrich in the face of a growing crisis.

Hillary Clinton Has No Regrets About Libya

Hillary Clinton Has No Regrets About Libya | Upsetment | Scoop.it
Hillary Clinton Has No Regrets About Libya « | Foreign Policy | the Global Magazine of News and Ideas
Kenneth Weene's insight:
Intervention without a clear plan with includes a method of implementation was a terrible mistake. A bunch of think-tank proposals does not a realistic plan make. Ms.. Clinton seems to lack a self-critical faculty which makes me doubt her capacity to be a good POTUS. n some ways, the entire American presidential system is flawed because it is typically the grandiose who end up in office. Mr. Obama, Harry Truman, Gerry Ford, and William Howard Taft are some notable exceptions.

West 'ignored Russian offer in 2012 to have Syria's Assad step aside'

West 'ignored Russian offer in 2012 to have Syria's Assad step aside' | Upsetment | Scoop.it
Exclusive: Senior negotiator describes rejection of alleged proposal – since which time tens of thousands have been killed and millions displaced
Kenneth Weene's insight:

I have often spoken of the need to recognize Russia's spheres of influence, especially her role in Syria. I consider not doing so the major  foreign policy error of the Obama administration and one of my main objections to the presidential candidacy of Hillary Clinton.

Stopping the Rot at Foggy Bottom, From Benghazi to Afghanistan’s Missing Millions

Stopping the Rot at Foggy Bottom, From Benghazi to Afghanistan’s Missing Millions | Upsetment | Scoop.it
In mid-December, the State Department’s top internal watchdog sat down in front of a bank of cameras at a high-profile House hearing on Benghazi and…
Kenneth Weene's insight:

This highlights my greatest criticism of the Obama presidency. Because he has never been an administrator, he has not been able to understand the need to provide close oversight and ongoing monitoring of the various government departments. Of course, finding the suitable inspectors general won't be easy, but he has not shown any interest in creating even the beginnings of a training and recruitment program. On the other hand, neither has Congress pushed this concern beyond specific instances. That business as usual attitude in the great federal bureaucracy should be a major concern for us all.

Alone Again, Naturally

Alone Again, Naturally | Upsetment | Scoop.it
The rock-star candidate who got elected on his electrifying promise has become a bored bird in a gilded cage.
Kenneth Weene's insight:

A powerful critique of Mr. Obama. He has certainly failed to work on the relationships necessary for the job.

Obama's Victory -- The Landslide You Couldn't See

Obama's Victory -- The Landslide You Couldn't See | Upsetment | Scoop.it
If we fail to summon the courage necessary to identify racial animus where it exists, and to in turn adjust our approach to policy-making accordingly, all Americans will pay a price, not just those who are the typical targets of racial animus.
Kenneth Weene's insight:

This is an important analysis. Even if you don't agree with it, and I do, it is something you should read and think about.

This is a thought-provoking article regardless of party affiliation or voter preference in the presidential election.

Marilyn Armstrong's curator insight, December 14, 2012 3:16 PM

For all those who keep saying that "race didn't have anything to do with it," yes. It did. It had everything to do with both the 2008 and 2012 elections.

Obama: It will be 'personal insult' if black community doesn't turn out for Clinton

Obama: It will be 'personal insult' if black community doesn't turn out for Clinton | Upsetment | Scoop.it
"My name may not be on the ballot, but our progress is on the ballot."
Kenneth Weene's insight:
Yes, I understand that he sees his legacy on the line, but I am saddened that Mr. Obama has resorted to such a race oriented push for Clinton. The real problem is that he made a deal with Hillary in 2008 and has to support somebody who is doing a poor job of campaigning at best. While I will most likely vote for her, I would have preferred a better candidate. I think that deep in his heart so would Mr. Obama.

At service for Dallas officers, Obama confesses frustrations as he calls for unity

At service for Dallas officers, Obama confesses frustrations as he calls for unity | Upsetment | Scoop.it
“I have seen how inadequate my own words have been,” he tells mourners.
Kenneth Weene's insight:
In dealing with the forces that drive us apart, perhaps we should remember these insightful, presidential words, “Too often we judge other groups by their worst examples, while judging ourselves by our best intentions.” It is seldom that I get to endorse the words of George W. Bush, but he was right on the mark in saying that whether we are talking about Black Americans, White Americans, or Blue Americans.

Republicans Criticize Deal to Free Iranian Prisoners

Republicans Criticize Deal to Free Iranian Prisoners | Upsetment | Scoop.it
"The fact is that we shouldn’t have to trade anything to get our citizens back home," Chris Christie said
Kenneth Weene's insight:

The simple fact is that diplomacy worked and I hate to think what would have happened if one of these blustering idiots had been at the helm instead of Obama and his Secretary of State, Kerry. Iran and the U.S. should be friends; we had a long history of friendship before we overthrew their government and supported a dictator. So, please let's keep rational and caring people in the White House. My question for the election is who is most capable of negotiating with others. So far, my answer is Sanders. I honestly think he's the only one whose ego won't get in the way.

Please address me as Mister. I insist.

Please address me as Mister. I insist. | Upsetment | Scoop.it
How informality hurts us.
Kenneth Weene's insight:

Do you agree with Mr. Strain? For my part, I never found that my authority was diluted in any way by being called Ken. On the other hand, I do think Mr. Obama was wrong. The Chancellor's office (as well as his own) are what he should have addressed and referenced. It is important that whatever personal relationship lies beneath a meeting, it is in the end a meeting of two offices, POTUS and Chancellor.

Can Obama Keep His Generals in Check in the War Against ISIS?

Can Obama Keep His Generals in Check in the War Against ISIS? | Upsetment | Scoop.it
The president promised no combat troops to fight ISIS, but his top general says he may recommend them. Why Obama and his commanders are not on the same page for the new war.
Kenneth Weene's insight:

We have become a nation preoccupied with war and militarism. What is more horrifying is how many of our "political" leaders share that preoccupation. It is one thing to help solve world problems; it is another to constantly intensify them and create them with the unthinking deployment of the military. If the countries of the Middle East don't want to help stabilize their own region, we can't do it. If Iran, Russia, and Turkey aren't on board, things will go badly. The only real way forward is through shared effort and mutual recognition of the legitimacy of differences and identities.

Four Questionable Claims Obama Has Made on NSA Surveillance

Four Questionable Claims Obama Has Made on NSA Surveillance | Upsetment | Scoop.it
President Obama, who is delivering a speech on surveillance policy today, has made a series of misleading statements about the NSA.
Kenneth Weene's insight:

In my opinion, the NSA (along with the CIA) has become more a threat to our way of life than a guardian. Sadly, Mr. Obama seems to have bought into the system rather than maintaining an awareness of its inherent tendency to perpetuate and expand itself.
