While law enforcement may protest that there is need for such sophisticate tools, those devices in fact make us all inmates for their observation and control. And what is the justification? A failed war on drugs? A misdirected War on Terror? Meanwhile the real thieves armed with fancy lawyers, tax loopholes, and off-shore bank accounts are looting the country.

The nature of bureaucracy is to take over and expand not to be self-critical and to follow rules. If power corrupts, bureaucracy desensitizes. That is why I keep speaking out against the military-industrial-espionage complex.

For all my libertarian friends and those concerned with government excess, please note that the order in question was signed by Ronald Reagan and expanded by George W. Bush. Yeah, spying on Americans by the U.S. government is a gift from the conservative right. How about that?
