Too often what we have been given instead is secrecy and manipulation. That is why a free press with good investigative reporters and protection for whistle-blowers is so important. The nature of bureaucracy is to take over and expand not to be self-critical and to follow rules. If power corrupts, bureaucracy desensitizes. That is why I keep speaking out against the military-industrial-espionage complex.
