McCain still supports Trump, despite concern about foreign policy skills - The Boston Globe

McCain still supports Trump, despite concern about foreign policy skills - The Boston Globe | Upsetment | Scoop.it
The 2008 GOP nominee also criticized presumptive Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton.
Kenneth Weene's insight:
The poor SOB has no choice. Having given us the Painful Palin Experience, he has no credibility left. He can only hope to ride the coattails of the angry and the racist. And I can only hope that the large Mexican-American and Native American populations of Arizona will join people like myself in voting Mr. McCain's retirement from politics. It is well past due.

Selling Off Apache Holy Land

Selling Off Apache Holy Land | Upsetment | Scoop.it
What motivated Congress to give Oak Flat, a sacred Apache site, to a mining company that will certainly destroy it?
Kenneth Weene's insight:

American history is a study in the dynamic tension between idealism and greed. Sadly, greed is once again on the ascendency. If you ever travel to Globe, AZ or visit the San Carlos reservation, you will quickly realize that the unholy alliance of corporations and government has no concern for values or people but worships money. In the end, when the land is desolate and the people dying, what will money be worth?

Donald Trump Says John McCain Is No War Hero, Setting Off Another Storm

Donald Trump Says John McCain Is No War Hero, Setting Off Another Storm | Upsetment | Scoop.it
In Iowa, Mr. Trump disparaged Mr. McCain’s Vietnam War record, saying: “He’s not a war hero. He’s a war hero because he was captured. I like people who weren’t captured.”
Kenneth Weene's insight:

Perhaps the world is coming to an end. That I'm defending John McCain is unprecedented. However, just as I would take up arms to defend my home from a crazed want-to-be Muslim on his own mission to reach Allah via a suicide bombing, I want to defend Mr. McCain from an asshole who is every bit as crazy and unconnected to the meaning of anything as that hypothetical bomber. Indeed, that is what Trump has become, a madman on his own self-directed jihad ready to heave bombs wherever he can. Reality, while Mr. McCain was shot down, he suffered terribly and didn't crack. That makes him pretty heroic. When offered early release by his captors in order to embarrass the U.S. because his father was an admiral. Mr. McCain didn't accept that personal advantage. Again, damned heroic. If you want to know more about people like Trump, you'll find one in Memoirs From the Asylum along with lots of other great characters.

McCain: 'Republicans Have To Understand We Have Lost This Battle'

McCain: 'Republicans Have To Understand We Have Lost This Battle' | Upsetment | Scoop.it
With the government shutdown in its third week and the United States dangerously close to the debt limit, Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) urged members of his party on Tuesday to stop digging.
Kenneth Weene's insight:

I wish I could take some schadenfreude from this story, but I am too worried for our economy. I wonder how many people will now stop saying, "Oh, it's both parties' fault." I wonder how many people will now realize that the Republicans are not better at handling that economy.
