Trump Raises Specter of Hillary Clinton Impeachment

Trump Raises Specter of Hillary Clinton Impeachment | Upsetment | Scoop.it
Donald Trump and his surrogates have begun telling audiences that Hillary Clinton would likely be impeached as president.
Kenneth Weene's insight:
In effect these Repiglican is telling us that if we elect her they will not let her govern. Where I come from, that is called a coup. This makes it imperative that we defeat the Republican party out of our politics. Seriously, if they are planning a coup in my name, I want them gone. And, if it were the Democrats taking a similar approach I would say the same of them. In effect, this egomaniac and his crew are saying that only they can govern. Yep, he's with Putin alright. I don't care how much you detest Hilary, and I'm no fan of hers, this must not be allowed. .

Is The GOP Trying To Destroy The Earth?

Is The GOP Trying To Destroy The Earth? | Upsetment | Scoop.it
The Republican party casts doubt on climate change, rejects the Paris Agreement and calls coal "clean."
Kenneth Weene's insight:
If a political party serves not the wellbeing of the people but the growth of corporations, then it cannot give proper concern to climate and environmental issues. Hopefully, the Democratic platform will be more in touch with the evidence of science and the needs of the future. Denial ain't a river in Egypt; last week it changed course and inundated Cleveland.

GOP war on porn: The same party that nominated a libertine for president is now calling your porn a “public health crisis”

GOP war on porn: The same party that nominated a libertine for president is now calling your porn a “public health crisis” | Upsetment | Scoop.it
The RNC platform committee describes internet porn as a "public menace" that is "destroying the life of millions"
Kenneth Weene's insight:
I'm not big on porn. Certainly, it can be a part of some behavior; and mental health issues, but the GOP Platform Committee has reached some level of madness with their sexual obsessions, especially given the party's presumptive nominee for the presidency. Trump once bragged that avoiding STDs  was his "personal Vietnam" because of all his sleeping around. Hey, his only on his third marriage, right?!

Cruz Calls For Abandoning ‘Political Correctness’ In Wake Of Orlando

Cruz Calls For Abandoning ‘Political Correctness’ In Wake Of Orlando | Upsetment | Scoop.it
Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) said that the country’s leaders must “abandon political correctness” in the wake of the mass shooting at a gay club in Orlando, Florida over the weekend.
Kenneth Weene's insight:
Will the GOP ever get it? It is not political correctness that keeps me from calling the horror of Orlando an Islamic Terrorist Attack, it is the absence of evidence. The Boston Marathon attack was Islamic Terrorism. 9/11 was assuredly Muslim Terrorism. The attack in Paris as well. This incident is more about a single paranoid personality who finally cracked all the way. There is no reason to believe he was particularly religious or that he had previously been involved in any plan. He was more of a grandiose idiot, the kind who wants to tell himself and others how central to big things he is. If we conflate the nut cases with the true terrorists we will end up failing to properly respond to either. In reality, we need to be vigilant about both. However he came up on the radar of the FBI, this guy should have been screened for mental illness as well as for political beliefs and associations. That is the real failure, the failure to understand that the mental health issues underlying such horrific acts are just as real and perhaps more dangerous than any political agendas.

In the GOP House, Infant Lives probe accelerates while Zika funding request stalls

In the GOP House, Infant Lives probe accelerates while Zika funding request stalls | Upsetment | Scoop.it
Kenneth Weene's insight:
The implications are clear and disgusting. The GOP is not so much about protecting children or the lives of infants as it is about manipulating the Pro-Life voters. Meanwhile, failure to protect fetuses from teratogenic threats like Zika increases the potential demand for abortions.

South Carolina Republican Mudslinging Reaches New Heights in 2016

South Carolina Republican Mudslinging Reaches New Heights in 2016 | Upsetment | Scoop.it
The state known for sharp elbows is out-doing itself this year, as the campaigns are pitched in nasty brawls ahead of Saturday's GOP vote.
Kenneth Weene's insight:

Of course a part of me is amused; how can I not find this circus amusing? And another part, that wants to see a major Democratic victory, rejoices in the GOP's disarray.  But, the part of me that loves America and the part that grew up a New England Republican are in despair over the deterioration of the GOP. Shame n them and shame on the state of South Carolina that has become the piss-hole of American politics.

Arizona Wants Doctors to Tell Patients that Abortions Can Be “Reversed”

Arizona Wants Doctors to Tell Patients that Abortions Can Be “Reversed” | Upsetment | Scoop.it
Doctors in Arizona might soon be required to tell women that abortions can be "reversed." As the Washington Post reports, the Arizona legislature just passed a bill that is the latest in state-based attempts to ban women from using their own health insurance to pay for abortion. What makes this bill...
Kenneth Weene's insight:

In Arizona, we are living in an asylum where the madness is called the Republican party. If this isn't enough for the women of this state (and all the rational men) to vote these bums out, I don't know what will be. The worst part is that when some woman falls prey to this deception and hasn't taken the second medication and it leads to severe complications for her health and this douche bag and his cohort will have not a scintilla of responsibility.

Senate Poised To Pass Violence Against Women Act - But House Outlook Remains Uncertain

Senate Poised To Pass Violence Against Women Act - But House Outlook Remains Uncertain | Upsetment | Scoop.it
The Senate is poised to pass the Violence Against Women Act reauthorization early this week, with a final vote expected Monday afternoon or Tuesday.
Kenneth Weene's insight:

I hope that women everywhere will remember what the house GOP is doing. I still say if you are a woman married to a Republican you should kick him out of the bedroom until he leaves the party of misogyny.

GOP donors, fearful of Trump-fueled electoral rout, direct big money down-ballot

GOP donors, fearful of Trump-fueled electoral rout, direct big money down-ballot | Upsetment | Scoop.it
Super PAC fundraising hits a new record: nearly $1 billion collected by the end of June.
Kenneth Weene's insight:
So the GOP is trying to buy its continued control of Congress. Somehow that seems like a bad idea for two reasons. First, the GOP really has not got much a track record; just consider how badly we all view congress now, and they've been in control. Second, if they can't keep their own house in order and can offer us a court jester at the helm, why should we think they can run the country? While I do have a few local GOP candidates I will vote for and a few I would if they were up for re-election, for the most part. I think it is time to force the GOP out so they will actually do some rethinking. I truly hope we can produce a new party in America, one that rejects the creed of money and replace it with a few of the future based on human justice and social values.

Kenneth Weene's insight:

I can only hope that the people of Iowa will be as sickened by him as I am. GOP Makes 'Appalling' Pitch To LGBTs: Dems Are Choosing Muslims Over You

GOP Makes 'Appalling' Pitch To LGBTs: Dems Are Choosing Muslims Over You | Upsetment | Scoop.it
The same Republicans who have argued that gay couples should not be allowed to marry, that LGBT Americans don't need federal anti-discrimination protections and that trans people should not use the bathroom that matches their identity are now claiming that they -- not Democrats -- are the party on the LGBT community's side.

Their reasoning? That somehow, in the wake of the Orlando shooting at a gay night club that left 49 people dead, there's now a mutually exclusive choice between supporting Muslims and protecting gay people, and Democrats have chosen the former.

The unlovely premise of that rationale is that all Muslims are terrorists, as one Republican congressman has baldly stated.

"Democrats are in a perplexing position. On the one hand, they’re trying to appeal to the gay community, but, on the other hand, they’re trying to also appeal to the Muslim community, which, if it had its way, would kill every homosexual in the United States of America,” Rep. Mo Brooks (R-AL) said on a radio show Thursday.
Kenneth Weene's insight:
The disgusting politics of division. I grew up in a country that celebrated diversity even while it opposed the rights of Blacks, gays, Native Americans, and Asians. We have moved forward towards fulfill our pledge of "E pluribus unum", and now the far right would have us turn our backs on that movement. Shame on them!

Illinois GOP: If single moms can’t find the dad, their babies won’t get birth certificates | Upsetment | Scoop.it
Being a single mom in Springfield, Illinois could get a little more difficult if certain GOP lawmakers get their way.
Kenneth Weene's insight:
So America, do you get it yet. Here we have the same GOP that says a fetus has a right to life saying that that same being once born can be deprived an identity and assistance. Isn't it time to dump the Republicans and get a party with a brain? Or perhaps they are just missing a heart.

The Secret Origins of the Tea Party

The Secret Origins of the Tea Party | Upsetment | Scoop.it
How Big Oil and Big Tobacco partnered with the Koch brothers to take over the GOP
Kenneth Weene's insight:
In case you haven't figured it out yet, the corruption of American life and values by the wealthy is not something new. Rather it is a recurring theme in our nation's history. There are always dupes to be played and "villains" like foreigners and government to be blamed. KKK, Know Nothings, TEA Party: they're all the same, filled with anger and ready to be pushed into blaming somebody else. By the way, if you are fascinated by the connection between wealth and corruption, you really should read "Times To Try The Soul of Man."

Hot Take on the GOP Debate: National Security | Upsetment | Scoop.it

And from the ideas expressed in this first debate, Republicans clearly don’t think that national security is going to be a determiner of who garners the Republican nomination.  There was a chorus of criticism of President Obama’s policies, but little in the way of practical plans to improve upon them.

Kenneth Weene's insight:

I thought this a pretty good summary of much that went on in last night's circus.

News from The Associated Press

News from The Associated Press | Upsetment | Scoop.it

"Republicans now in charge of Congress offer their budget blueprint this week with the pledge to balance the nation's budget within a decade and rein in major programs such as food stamps and Medicare.

More pressing for many Republicans, however, is easing automatic budget cuts set to slam the military."

Kenneth Weene's insight:

Notice that in no way are they saying there will be more revenue because all those tax cuts to the rich and business will grow the economy. Nope that fantasied excuse is gone and all we have left is a model of government that serves the wealthy at the expense of the common (wo)man. Hey, folks, time to wake up and get rid of the GOP. We need a political party devoted to a strong American society, one that cares for its citizens.

McCain: 'Republicans Have To Understand We Have Lost This Battle' | Upsetment | Scoop.it
With the government shutdown in its third week and the United States dangerously close to the debt limit, Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) urged members of his party on Tuesday to stop digging.
Kenneth Weene's insight:

I wish I could take some schadenfreude from this story, but I am too worried for our economy. I wonder how many people will now stop saying, "Oh, it's both parties' fault." I wonder how many people will now realize that the Republicans are not better at handling that economy.

By targeting legislature races in 2010, Republicans say they were able to keep control of the House
Kenneth Weene's insight:

Do we want a political party that prides itself in stealing power? More and more I wonder if Americans will eventually turn their backs on the party of deception and manipulation. And don't tell me the Democrats do the same thing.
