An eighth grader in Northern California allegedly received detention after recently offering a fellow student some of his lunch.

Weaverville Elementary School student Kyle Bradford, 13, gave a friend some of his chicken burrito on Tuesday because the student didn’t like the cheese sandwich being served by cafeteria officials that day.

“It seemed like he couldn’t get one, a normal lunch, so I just wanted to give mine to him because I really wasn’t that hungry. It was just going to go in the garbage if I didn’t eat it,” Bradford told CNN.

3 reasons America still leads the world in imprisoning people

Karmen Louise Tobin's curator insight, Today, 7:26 PM

I think that it's great that the crime rate has dropped by 1% in this last decade and that violent crimes have dropped by 20% like said that this shows higher number results in the drops in comparison to the people incarcerated. I know jail sentences are longer and the concern is how are these people going to fit into society with the rest of the working class after released? Equally are important. I think even though America is still in the lead in the world for imprisoning people,  I still feel that we are still the most easy going on some crimes that should be addressed in my opinion.
