I wanted to take this opportunity to remind you all of the various sources of support across the university specifically the help available to you should you wish to improve your English for academic purposes in addition to course linked support.
First of all there are the General English for Academic Purposes (EAP) courses. Any international student at the University can sign up for these courses which are offered on Academic Writing, Presentation and Seminar Skills, Critical Thinking, Dissertation Writing and Everyday English.
Students can also sign up for individual tutorial help. These are 20 minute individual sessions for language and academic advising. e.g. they could take along a piece of their writing for guidance on how to improve; they could ask for advice on how to learn vocabulary. NB Advisors will not proof read whole assignments.
International students also have access to the English for Academic Purposes (EAP) Toolkit on Blackboard. Every international student has a link to this on their Blackboard homepage. The EAP Toolkit is a set of online self-study resources containing over 100 interactive learning resources or 80 hours of activity based learning. It covers Learning Skills, Academic Writing, Reading and Critical Thinking, Listening and Note-Taking, Communication Skills, Grammar and Vocabulary for Academic Purposes.

It may be second semester already but it's not too late to look into these resources.
