Top 10 Video Infographics of 2012

Top 10 Video Infographics of 2012 | omnia mea mecum fero | Scoop.it

In the great tradition of end of year blog posts, here's a feature on the top 10 video infographics of 2012.

Over the year, I’ve curated 222 videos on this site [videoinfographics.net], and reviewed hundreds more. As part of my process of watching and curating so many infographic videos, I started to keep my own 3-star ranking system of these videos in a spreadsheet to help me keep track of those that I think are the most outstanding. The result was about 60 3-star videos in 2012. That’s too many to feature in a top X list so I turned to the Likes and Comments of my top ranked videos (and in doing so eliminated videos only featured on YouTube since YouTube comments are pretty much trash). This resulted in a list of 10 videos that had triple digit Likes on their Vimeo pages.

Voila! A top 10 list. So, in a ascending order, here are the top 10 most liked animated video infographics featured here in 2012, including number of Likes and Comments for each (as of December 30, 2012).

9 Of The World's Most Inspiring Infographics - Co.Design

9 Of The World's Most Inspiring Infographics - Co.Design | omnia mea mecum fero | Scoop.it
Co.Design9 Of The World's Most Inspiring InfographicsCo.DesignTaschen is rolling out a book collecting some of the world's best infographics. Here's a taste.

We spend lots of time here at Co.Design hunting down the smartest and most creative infographics to feature daily, but we’re limited by what’s available on the web, what we have permission to publish, and what languages we (and you) can understand. Here to pick up where Infographic of the Day leaves off is Information Graphics (Taschen, April 2012), a 480-page doorstopper of a book that offers up a mind-boggling selection of infographics, many plucked from the furthest reaches of the media firmament. It has more than 400 examples, ranging from an illustration of stalled building projects in a Dutch design rag to a Nicholas Felton-designed chart of CNN.com traffic to a map of sonar and whale songs courtesy of a Danish geological institute.

The 22 Best Infographics We Found In 2011

The 22 Best Infographics We Found In 2011 | omnia mea mecum fero | Scoop.it

2011 was a huge year for infographic design. Large companies embraced data renderings as a business strategy like never before, whether it was to promote their brand (GE) or bolster their bottom line (the New York Times). Nowhere was that more evident than at Facebook. Timeline, the site’s most ambitious redesign to date, brought the central tenet of data viz--organizing unwieldy bits and bobs into a compelling, visual narrative--to millions of people around the world...

The 16 Best Science Visualizations of 2011

The 16 Best Science Visualizations of 2011 | omnia mea mecum fero | Scoop.it
Toxic barbs on a cucumber’s skin, nanoscopic flakes of metal and a mouse’s technicolor eyeball (above) are just a few of 2011′s top science visualizations.

A panel of judges picked the best of more than 200 entries from 33 countries for the 2011 International Science and Engineering Visualization Challenge.

“I think because information technology tools and visualization tools have advanced, people have found ever-increasingly clever ways to display difficult scientific concepts,” said competition judge Thomas Wagner, a cryosphere scientist at NASA, in an interview provided by the contest.

Contest judges made their picks based on visual impact, originality and clarity. The winners, which include “people’s choice” awards as well as honorable mentions, were published online Feb. 2 in the journal Science.

The entries weren’t just limited to photographs. Contest categories also included illustrations, informational graphics, videos and even interactive video games.

See the best of these science and engineering visualizations in this gallery.
