Graphics, charts, diagrams and visual data representations have been published on books, newspapers and magazines since they've existed, not to mention old maps and scientific illustrations...
Despite the lack of tools such as the ones we have at our disposal nowadays, they are as inspiring and important as the best contemporary visualizations. Visit the article link for a gallery of vintage visualizations... Via Lauren Moss Delete the scoop?

Within the typographic communities, people have debated on the issue: Do serifs contribute to the legibility of typefaces, and are sans serif typefaces less legible?
Like many things, these two different fonts have pros and cons. This infographic takes a look at the argument of serif vs sans serif... Via Lauren Moss

It wasn’t malicious. The file itself was the size of a small JPEG. It was given the absolute lowest priority. And it was set to self-destruct if anything went wrong. But this small file allowed one single hacker to measure the Internet activity of nearly half a million connected devices around the world, then share the results with everyone. How was this even possible? The "hacker" barely hacked anything. In reality, they gained access to all these systems because each had the default "root" set as a password. With this access in hand, they ran several tests focusing on Internet structure and activity. And what they created from all this data is a spectacular map that captures a day in the life of the Internet (and all of its users). Via Lauren Moss

As our students become more aware of the technology around them, we as educators and parents need to spend time talking face-to-face on what is appropriate and what may need to be kept to oneself. This TeachThought post that Nik shared on his Scoop.it site is a good starting point for discussions.
CERT's comment,
May 8, 3:41 AM
Unfortunately we find that what happens the most, especially in schools is that educators and administrators tend to shy away from this responsibility and limit their teaching to the way they have been taught, thus excluding all the elements that are now pronouncing us as digital citizens in a society.
Sieg Holle's curator insight,

In the digital world we are human beings -free of the many artificial restrictions and other special interest agendas and use our free will to engage our ideas and actions. It is natural - people can chose who they want to communicate with It is a positive MOOC of that will expand the world into a new age of freedom and abundance . Delete the scoop?
