The veins of the nation: All of America's rivers mapped

The veins of the nation: All of America's rivers mapped | UnSpy - For Liberty! | Scoop.it
All of America's rivers can be seen in a new map created by a computer programmer from California. Nelson Mina managed to plot the course of the country's waterways.
unspy's insight:

The dry, dusty Nevada desert appears to have plenty of rivers running through it. Of course, many of these rivers are streams or washes that do not contain water all year round. In fact, some may only have water in them a few days a year after heavy rainfall. The vector data Minar used to make the visualization is on GitHub if you'd like to make your own.

Something strange about the Bank of Israel logo.

Something strange about the Bank of Israel logo. | UnSpy - For Liberty! | Scoop.it

So why would the central bank of Israel use a logo containing a map that is larger than modern Israel's border and is identical to the conceptual "greater Israel"?

unspy's insight:

The design, by Nathan Karp, first appeared on the 100 shekel coin issued by the Bank of Israel on May 2, 1984. When the old shekel currency was replaced by the new shekel in September 1985, the design was copied to the new 10 agorot coin, which was equal in value to the old 100 shekel. This design was also adopted as the symbol of the Bank of Israel.

Welcome to Utah, the NSA's desert home for eavesdropping on America | UnSpy - For Liberty! | Scoop.it
The NSA's new $1.7bn facility in the heart of Mormon country has the potential to snoop on US citizens for decades to come
unspy's insight:

"If one had the opportunity to collect all the voice traffic in the US it would cost less than the Pentagon spends on paperclips. Storage these days is trivial, it's not a problem." A rack of servers the size of a fridge can store 100 TV channels' annual output, said Kahle. "What's slow to dawn on people is that this level of surveillance is technologically and economically within our grasp."

This "stunning" scoop is brought to you from the same witless clod who claimed that Ron Paul and Adam Kokesh were part of a Commie plot to undermine the Republican Party. That's also the same guy who -- doing his duty as a good little Regimist hack -- filed an FEC complaint against the Ron Paul campaign. So Glenn Greewald may have spoken *to* Marxists -- but Cliff Kincaid *behaves* like a commissar.

unspy's insight:

It should be stressed that it is not the president but the supreme leader and, beneath him, the upper echelons of the Revolutionary Guard who determine the broad lines of Iran's nuclear policy. Meanwhile, the CIA is preparing to deliver arms to rebel groups in Syria through clandestine bases in Turkey and Jordan.

PHONEKERCHIEF

PHONEKERCHIEF | UnSpy - For Liberty! | Scoop.it

MIT's Technology Review calls it the newest, hottest Thanksgiving accessory -- but you can use phone-size "Faraday cages" like this (sold byuncommongoods) to block your cellphone's call signal, WiFi and GPS. Handy now that federal courts are ruling that cops can track suspects via cellphone sans warrant, and Apple can remotely disable your phone camera with a click. As security researcher Jacob Appelbaum said in an interview with N+1 back in April, "Cell phones are tracking devices that make phone calls." So shouldn't you be prepared for when you don'twant to be tracked?

RFID Blocking Wallet

RFID Blocking Wallet | UnSpy - For Liberty! | Scoop.it

Protect your identity, and protect your money! Hackers can steal from you without even opening your wallet. This wallet, however, is your protection.

Radio-Frequency Identification (RFID) chips are now regularly implanted in passports, ID cards, credit cards and travel papers. These tiny chips make machine-reading your documents easier -- but could also let anyone with the right type of scanner scrape your information and track your whereabouts. Luckily, gadget geeks have come to the rescue again, this time with RFID-blocking wallets. Working on the same principle as the "phonekerchief", these wallets create a Faraday cage around your items, keeping their data secure until you take them out to be scanned where they're supposed to be scanned. Destroying the chip is simpler: just nuke it in the microwave for five seconds. Of course, whatever you're microwaving might burst into flames first...

Man Behind Syrian ‘Chemical Weapons’ Claim Is Fiction Writer Who Ran Benghazi Cover-Up

Man Behind Syrian ‘Chemical Weapons’ Claim Is Fiction Writer Who Ran Benghazi Cover-Up | UnSpy - For Liberty! | Scoop.it

35-year-old Rhodes has been a speechwriter for Obama since 2007 and now enjoys the role of deputy national security adviser for strategic communication. He created the infamous term “kinetic military action” to describe the bombardment of Libya which allowed Obama to skirt around the constitutional question of having to declare war.

Rhodes’ expertise revolves around manufacturing narratives. “He earned a master’s degree in fiction-writing from New York University just a few years ago,” writes Ed Lansky. “He did not have a degree in government, diplomacy, national security; nor has he served in the CIA, or the military. He was toiling away not that long ago on a novel called ‘The Oasis of Love” about a mega church in Houston, a dog track, and a failed romance.”

As Stephen Hayes documents in a lengthy Weekly Standard piece, Rhodes was instrumental in altering CIA talking points to delete references to Islamic terrorists being involved in the attack on the US consulate in Benghazi, setting the foundation for the Obama administration’s cover-up of the incident by claiming the siege was a demonstration against an anti-Muslim film. This was an attempt to hide the fact that the White House had supported Al-Qaeda terrorists in the overthrow of Gaddafi, just as they are now doing in Syria.

Rhodes can also count on the support of the US corporate media in selling fairytales about chemical weapons, since his brother David is the president of CBS News.

The Snowden Principle by John Cusack

The Snowden Principle by John Cusack | UnSpy - For Liberty! | Scoop.it
The Snowden Principle, and that fire that inspired him to take unimaginable risks, is fundamentally about fostering an informed and engaged public. The Constitution embraces that idea.

As Chris Hedges rightly pointed out, this cuts to the heart of one of the most important questions in a democracy: will we have an independent free press that reports on government crimes and serves the public's right to know? Law professor Jonathan Turley reminds us, a lie told by everyone is not the truth.

The questions The Snowden Principle raises when evoked will not go away....How long do they expect rational people to accept using the word "terror" to justify and excuse ever expanding executive and state power ? Why are so many in our government and press and intellectual class so afraid of an informed public? Why are they so afraid of a Free Press and the people's right to know?

It's the government's obligation to keep us safe while protecting our constitution . To suggest it's one or the other is simply wrong.

unspy's insight:

I always ike John Cusack. Like him a whole lot more now.
