Germany Demands Obama Explain "American-Style Stasi Methods" | Zero Hedge | UnSpy - For Liberty! | Scoop.it

When even Zee Germans are staring open-mouthed at what they call "American-style Stasi methods" you know things have got a little out of hand. As Reuters reports, German outrage over a U.S. Internet spying program has broken out ahead of a visit by Barack Obama, with ministers demanding the president provide a full explanation when he lands in Berlin next week and one official likening the tactics to those of the East German Stasi. "The more a society monitors, controls and observes its citizens, the less free it is," Merkel's Justice Minister exclaimed, adding, "the suspicion of excessive surveillance of communication is so alarming that it cannot be ignored." While Obama has defended it as a "modest encroachment" on privacy and reassured Americans that no one is listening to their phone calls, the Germans reflect "I thought this era had ended when the DDR fell."

DHS Admits Boston Training Drill Involving Backpack Explosives Planned Months Before Marathon

DHS Admits Boston Training Drill Involving Backpack Explosives Planned Months Before Marathon | UnSpy - For Liberty! | Scoop.it

The Department of Homeland Security has gone public with an admission that an exercise was planned months before the Boston Marathon bombings that involved backpacks being used to detonate explosives by rogue terrorists.

According to the DHS documents acquired by the Boston Globe, the agents were planning on conducting training exercises centered around a fictitious terrorist group called ‘Free America Citizens’, a group that would plant backpacks full of explosives around Boston that the detectives would be forced to track down. Ultimately, of course, this ended up happening at the Boston Marathon itself with precise accuracy. The Globe report reads that “the city was hit with a real terrorist attack executed in a frighteningly similar fashion.”

Looks like Infowars had it right again.

Government Spying: Should We Be Shocked?

Government Spying: Should We Be Shocked? | UnSpy - For Liberty! | Scoop.it
Ron Paul | Many of us are not so surprised.

Some of us were arguing back in 2001 with the introduction of the so-called PATRIOT Act that it would pave the way for massive US government surveillance – not targeting terrorists but rather aimed against American citizens. We were told we must accept this temporary measure to provide government the tools to catch those responsible for 9/11. That was nearly twelve years and at least four wars ago.

We should know by now that when it comes to government power-grabs, we never go back to the status quo even when the “crisis” has passed. That part of our freedom and civil liberties once lost is never regained. How many times did the PATRIOT Act need renewed? How many times did FISA authority need expanded? Why did we have to pass a law to grant immunity to companies who hand over our personal information to the government?

unspy's insight:

Ron Paul was making this arguement as far back as 1984.

Die hard conservatives love to disparage liberals as tree huggers, but it has been recently scientifically validated that hugging trees is actually good for you. Research has shown that you don't even have to touch a tree to get better, you just need to be within its vicinity has a beneficial effect.

unspy's insight:

It has also been suggested that trees and open spaces could help to alleviate certain types of mental illness and depression more effectively than drugs. Maybe those tree loving hippys where right after all..

Snowden will be a Right-wing hero as well as a Left-libertarian one. Why? First, he thought carefully about what he should release, avoiding (he says) material that would harm innocent individuals. Second, he's formidably articulate.

unspy's insight:

Edward Snowden is a man of courage. He bravery and fearlessly speaks the truth to power. He is not a spy, rather he is an “unSpy” who reveal truth by exposing lies. Now Iceland is standing up for Snowden!

It reminds me of when Todd Anderson stood up in the fictional movie Dead Poet’s Society. When Todd stands on his desk bravely shouting “O Captain My Captain” he destroys the bystander effect. His brave actions allow his classmates to follow his courageous example standing up for their beloved teacher Mr. Keating. Now we see Iceland standing up for Edward Snowden, who himself stood-up for the civil-liberties once valued by every American.

William Shakespeare’s Star Wars is Exactly What You Need For Your Next Geeky Houseparty

William Shakespeare’s Star Wars is Exactly What You Need For Your Next Geeky Houseparty | UnSpy - For Liberty! | Scoop.it

Star Wars as a Shakespeare play. Because as party tricks go, who wouldn’t be into this?

What shouldn’t be surprising at all is how easily Star Wars seems to break itself down along Shakespeare’s typical structure, with five acts and emotional exclamations over every betrayal and character archetypes that fit the bill without breaking a sweat. Chats between stormtroopers become whole comedic side scenes in their own right, and knowledge of the prequels inform the ways in which characters monologue about each other where they couldn’t in the film proper.

In true Shakespearean form, there are hilarious asides that make it clear how each character truly feels and what they’re plotting. Observe

C-3PO: Anon, anon, R2! Where dost thou go?

O prithee, patience, leave me not alone.

[Aside.] Aye, even though I mock and injure thee,

I’ll surely die if e’er thou leavest me!

R2’s lines are written as beeps and squeaks, but his asides are in English. It’s kind of genius.

Military told not to read Obama-scandal news

Military told not to read Obama-scandal news | UnSpy - For Liberty! | Scoop.it

WND has received an unclassified NOTAM (Notice to Airmen) that warns airmen not to look at news stories related to the data-mining scandal.

The notice applies to users of the Air Force NIPRNET (Non-classified Internet Protocol Router Network), which is the only way that many troops stationed overseas and on bases in the U.S. are able to access the Internet.

unspy's insight:

Last Wednesday, the Guardian broke the news of the top-secret court order requiring Verizon to hand over all of its call data on an ongoing basis to the National Security Agency. On Friday, the Washington Post reported that the NSA and FBI are gathering data from the servers of nine U.S. Internet companies. Then reports came out that there are 50 companies from which the government is collecting data.
