Clear Your Mind; Unclog Your Brain | Unplug | Scoop.it
How to Clear Your Mind, About.com Homework / Study Tips
Susan Taylor's insight:

In this Digital Era, most of us know what it's like to experience information overload.  You know...that moment when your brain "locks up" or your thoughts freeze.

Grace Fleming shares her ideas on how to clear your mind and unclog your brain.

  • Set aside at least five minutes for quiet “clearing” time.
  • Think of a time or place that puts you into a complete state of calm.
  • Cover your eyes and go to your “ peaceful place.”
  • After five or ten minutes of clearing time, take a brisk walk or take a drink of water to re-energize your mind and body.

Millennial Women Burn Out Early

Millennial Women Burn Out Early | Unplug | Scoop.it
Share business ideas, small business news and social media tips with Project Eve's community of women in business and entrepreneurs. (RT @TedCurtin: Why Life Balance is Critical!
Susan Taylor's insight:

Are you a Millennial Woman?  If so, there are some things you need to know about early burn-out.

If you want to avoid burn-out, it's going to require some self-care, along with continually redefining your goals and evaluating your meaning of success.  So what does this mean?

It means that you need to learn to incorporate relaxation into your day in order to avoid reaching the breaking point.  Millenial women need "to learn that life is a marathon, not a sprint."

And it seems that men are more capable of doing this than women. Research shows that males spend more time taking care of their personal well-being.  "They are 25% more likely to take breaks for personal activities, 35% more likely to take breaks for relaxing, 7% more likely to take time out to go for a walk and 5% more likely to make time to go out for lunch".

So take a lesson from this research and your male counterpart.  Take a break...relax...and go out for a walk.

Do you feel scattered and unproductive? Are you looking for ways to reduce stress in your life? Does life seem to be swallowing you or overwhelming you?

"Unplug once a week. Take a day off of electronics, and normal weekly activities.  I honestly think smart phones aren’t so smart, they are robbing us of connecting face to face, not to mention our pocket books as well."

craig daniels's insight:

Its True!  Everyone loves lists and what could be better than a list the promises to reduce our stress levels... And to cap it off the author suggests we add an extra item to the list, "eat some dessert."

Does Stressed spelled backwards really spell Desserts? Well roll out your Stressed Cart spin it around and pass out the Desserts for everyone. Mmmmm...

Unplug, Disconnect & Relax

Unplug, Disconnect & Relax | Unplug | Scoop.it
These days technology is all pervasive, unavoidable even, and we are grateful. It has made it simple to get things done from anywhere in the world. It is hard to imagine going back to the way things were before smartphones.
Susan Taylor's insight:

It would indeed be hard to imagine going back to a life before smartphones.  A life with fewer distractions.  A time when text and Twitter alerts did not even exist.

Expedia suggests we all need to take a break once in awhile "to stay healthy, take stock of our life, and reconnect to the present." And they've created an infographic to help us remember to disconnect and relax -- especially during the holidays.

Busy-ness is Laziness

Busy-ness is Laziness | Unplug | Scoop.it
Tune in this Thursday at 10 am MST/12 pm EST for a conversation with +Waylon Lewis about integrating mindfulness and meditation into our daily lives and how these tools can improve our business and personal relationships and success.
Susan Taylor's insight:

If you want to improve your business, personal relationships and all around success, you need to do what many consider to be the "soft" stuff -- meditation and mindfulness.  But "soft" is the new "hard".  Living a life of busy-ness is nothing more than procrastination.  In fact, it's downright lazy.

Waylon Lewis calls himself a "Dharma Brat" and shares with us his views about integrating mindfulness and meditation into our hectic daily lives and the benefits we can gain from doing so.

So if you're "running around, clicking lots of buttons online", hit the pause button and watch this 8-mintue video where Lewis leads a practical (and fun) meditation which will help you to limit distractions and come back to the present moment.

Embrace the 3 R's

Embrace the 3 R's | Unplug | Scoop.it
Tips to find some work life balance and avoid burnout. (How to Avoid Burnout | Project Eve http://t.co/NzkhPMDTgo)
Susan Taylor's insight:

Rest...Refreshment...Rhythm...the 3 R's that help to ensure that Life's high demands don't burn you out.

REST

If you work constantly and never take a reprieve, you will not only be exhausted; lack of rest can lead to lack of motivation or even depression.  Your mind, body and spirit need to have some down time.

REFRESHMENT

Distraction does not equal refreshment.  "In today’s world of technological toys, it is very easy to escape the worries of the day" by checking email, texting or switching on the television.  These activities are so passive that we may think of them as a way to relax, but they aren't; these sorts of distractions do not refresh you.

RHYTHM

Constantly reacting to things is unproductive and draining.  Some days it seems that all you do is put out one fire after another.  Often times, this is unavoidable.  But constantly putting out fires (i.e. reacting) indicates a symptom of poor planning.  Try to carve out time each day for certain activities, setting a rhythm for the week. Note: Your schedule should include planned time off.

Our busy world often demands over-activity.  But we don't need to buy into that.  Be your own advocate, and find a balance that works for you.
