Mindful Eating – The Best Meal You’ve Had In Years

Mindful Eating – The Best Meal You’ve Had In Years | Unplug | Scoop.it
Mindful Eating – The Best Meal You’ve Had In Years. Check out this mindfulness exercise for mindful eating. It’s time to really become aware of your food.
craig daniels's insight:

If you've ever taken a class in mindfulness chances are the instructor passed around a box of raisins and asked you to place just one onto your tongue. Once everyone in the class has a single raisin on their tongue the instructor would tell you to feel it's texture, taste it flavor and focus on it's smell while it sits on your tongue.

A first time mindfulness group each with a raisin on their tongue is a sight to behold. The participants all wonder if they are doing it right as they fight back the need to open their eyes and laugh out loud. They wonder if they are doing it right and they wonder what the heck this has to do with anything.

We spend hours everyday preparing and devouring food but we rarely if ever pay attention to the food once it passes our lips. We shovel food in quickly and then move on to our next task.

We miss out on a great opportunity to practice mindfulness and to get a brief glimpse of a moment.

Why Mindfulness Should Be Part Of Your Everyday Life

Why Mindfulness Should Be Part Of Your Everyday Life | Unplug | Scoop.it
The areas that are exercised when we practice mindfulness have to do with what we call ''direct experience.'' When we're experiencing something directly, we're fully enveloped by whatever we're doing.
craig daniels's insight:

Mindfulness can be a foreign concept at first. We might ask a mindfulness practioner what the heck are they talking about when they say things like "see reality for the first time" or "seeing with focus".

The practice of mindfulness can seem like a collection of New Age pap meant to exclude people rather than include them. It really is just seeing things without a preconception and without a head full of chatter and noise.
