Be Real, Get Real and Laugh Face to Face.

Too much online engagement exercises a different part of the brain from that of REAL, IN-PERSON engagement. So get REAL People. BE Real. Have some REAL friends...

craig daniels's insight:

Unplugging on a regular basis not only improves your brains focus it also adds some grease to your interactions with people, you remember people right.

I just happened upon this little vlog from Lisa Jey Davis and was struck by how crisply her message resonates with me, Get Real.

The hub bub of being always plugged in drowns out our feelings and insights we have when we are communicating with people face to face...

The video is short so give it a watch, see if it doesn't also resonate with you. And thanks for sharing and liking this scoop.

Less Tweeting, More Drinking: Amstel App Rewards Digital Detoxers With Free Beer

Less Tweeting, More Drinking: Amstel App Rewards Digital Detoxers With Free Beer | Unplug | Scoop.it
A new campaign and app from Amstel challenges users to put down the smartphone and presumably drink some beer in exchange for free brews.
craig daniels's insight:

I'm all for companies encourging us to unplug and spend less time tuned into the tech noise, but a free beer?

Well I thought about it and have come to the conclusion that it's a great idea as long as there is a limit to how many free beers you can get at one time.

A couple of beers with your friends seems like a great way to network and enjoy the company of others.

Overwhelmed: Are We Asking The Right Questions?

Overwhelmed: Are We Asking The Right Questions? | Unplug | Scoop.it
Confused. Disappointed. Anxious. Unfocused. Distracted. Overwhelmed. Stretched too thin. Unknowing where to turn, never know if I'm doing enough. Feeling I'm never doing the right thing. More and m...
craig daniels's insight:

Are we asking ourselves the right questions about how we've integrated our lives within the always on digital age? Social Media promises us a richer and more connected life with our peers but, does it deliver on this promise or does it just create a self sustaining illusion of connectivity?

In Overwhelmed Brian Gibson asks many questions about how we are integrating ourselves within this huge onslaught of data. One of my favorite questions in his post is: "How do we live a good life of online social interaction, and healthy “disconnected” time?"

I highly recommend this post, I've read it twice already and will be heading back to read it again.

The Power of the UNPLUG From Social Media and Mobile

The Power of the UNPLUG From Social Media and Mobile | Unplug | Scoop.it

"What I have found is that I am more inspired, more passionate about my work and simply happier when I unplug at a certain time every day and on the weekends. It is healthier for me and my family to know that there are times when social media, work and networking can take a backseat to what matters most in life… quality time for me and my family."

craig daniels's insight:

I love seeing more and more people talking about Unplugging on their blogs and websites. Unplugging is a problem for some and a nuisance for others but I think we can all agree taking a brake form Social Media from time to time is a healthy idea.

In The Power of the Unplug From Social Media and Mobile Britt Michaelian shares with us her thoughts on the subject using both text and a short video message. Check it out.
