  • Learn to say no. You have the power of choice. You can pick and choose what you want to invest your time in every day and make decisions based on your core values. However, saying no too often may make you look like you’re not a team player and hurt your personal brand, so keep a good balance.
  • Don’t feel guilty for being a working parent. As hard as it may be.
  • Take vacations and actually unplug on those vacations.
  • Name the point of conflict; it’s easier to address it."

Why I Spent So Much Time on Facebook

Why I Spent So Much Time on Facebook | Unplug | Scoop.it
I am about to stop using Facebook. And not because it is bad. Quite the opposite, actually. When I moved to Turkey five years ago, the smartphone was a prototype, I used a phone card to call friend...

"Facebook, social media, Twitter, Instagram – it is all an effort to share our stories, to connect with other people, to know we are not alone in this crazy plight of trying to find what makes us tick and then to make a life doing it."

craig daniels's insight:

As the author "Cat" so nicely says as she prepares to leave Facebook, "it's all an effort to share our stories, to connect with other people."

After all the hand-wringing and distractions it really does come down to wanting to share our stories with people who will appreciate what we have to say. We put our struggles and triumphs out into the open forum and hope we won't be crushed by the trolls who lurk under the bridge to do just that.

But people forget that there is more than Facebook and Twitter, more than social media and the glowing screen deep into the night. People forget for so many reasons that unplugging is not withdrawal from but embracing of.

Cat's post is about loving social media and of loving the tangible feelings and palpitations that are life outside of it.

craig daniels's insight:

Balance is indeed the key to life. Too much work can indeed make Jackie's life dull but also too much play can as well. Approaching both work and play with intention and attention will help us succeed at both.

4 Steps to Actually Feeling Happier

4 Steps to Actually Feeling Happier | Unplug | Scoop.it
There are a lot of myths surrounding the state of mind known as happiness. Here's how you can break them down and start on your own path.

"Remember, life doles out the knocks. And if we don't allow a natural progression of the resulting unpleasant feelings we will never fully experience and embrace the joy in life. That's right; where there is black, there is white, it's just how nature works. There are two complementary forces that make up all aspects of life and we must allow and accept their balance."

craig daniels's insight:

Being happy is as natural as breathing the air all around us, so why do we seem to need so many articles, books and classes in how to live in a state of happy?

Well, the answer is we really don't need all the stuff we are being told we need on how to be happy. What we really need is a few steps we can carry around with us as we climb our mountain. Marla Tabaka has written just such an list, a list that has 4 things in it that if practiced will enable us to have a much happier and smoother life.
