High School Students Begin & End Each Day with Meditation

High School Students Begin & End Each Day with Meditation | Unplug | Scoop.it
'Mindful Moments' Program Has High School Students Begin And End Each Day ...
Susan Taylor's insight:

A high school in Baltimore, Maryland is now making mindfulness a central part of students' lives by beginning and ending each day with meditation

Patterson High School has developed a Mindful Moment program with the goal to help students and teachers release stress and enhance focus.  This is all in an effort to create a better learning environment for everyone.  Faculty and kids engage in a 15-minute contemplative exercise at the start and end of each day.  There is a mindfulness room available for students to use throughout the day which is also open before and after school.

Consciously practicing mindfulness in schools has been shown to reduce stress and increase happiness in students as well as fight teacher burnout.  It has also been linked to "increased brain activity in the regions associated with positive emotions."

Way to go Patterson High!

Lessen The Load, Share Your Job

Lessen The Load, Share Your Job | Unplug | Scoop.it
You can't totally unplug unless someone's got your back. And if you never totally unplug you're flirting with burnout.

"a colleague who can plug into the workload so that you may unplug."

craig daniels's insight:

What if like a tea kettle we had a relief valve, a way of letting the steam off into the atmosphere and not at our co-workers or friends. It doesn't have to be a day-dream or a fantasy you spend time with while standing on the subway platform or stuck in rush hour.

Job sharing is slowly becoming more and more of a reality. What if you could make it to the school recital or take care of that pesky tooth ache while still making the deadline for your presentation.

In this FastCompany piece Drake Baer shares a some down to earth suggestions for mastering Job Sharing.

Millennial Women Burn Out Early

Millennial Women Burn Out Early | Unplug | Scoop.it
Share business ideas, small business news and social media tips with Project Eve's community of women in business and entrepreneurs. (RT @TedCurtin: Why Life Balance is Critical!
Susan Taylor's insight:

Are you a Millennial Woman?  If so, there are some things you need to know about early burn-out.

If you want to avoid burn-out, it's going to require some self-care, along with continually redefining your goals and evaluating your meaning of success.  So what does this mean?

It means that you need to learn to incorporate relaxation into your day in order to avoid reaching the breaking point.  Millenial women need "to learn that life is a marathon, not a sprint."

And it seems that men are more capable of doing this than women. Research shows that males spend more time taking care of their personal well-being.  "They are 25% more likely to take breaks for personal activities, 35% more likely to take breaks for relaxing, 7% more likely to take time out to go for a walk and 5% more likely to make time to go out for lunch".

So take a lesson from this research and your male counterpart.  Take a break...relax...and go out for a walk.

Avoiding Social Media Burnout - 5 Tips

Avoiding Social Media Burnout - 5 Tips | Unplug | Scoop.it
Don’t try to be everywhere. A common cause of social media burnout is the tendency to try to be on every social media channel, rather than focusing on the channels that will give a business the biggest bang for their buck.

"Unplug when you can. Just like anything else, when you take the time to step away and disconnect, you feel more refreshed when it’s time to come back."

craig daniels's insight:

Social media is a bit like watching the rabbit from Alice in Wonderland scurry from one place to the next and never really spend enough time in any one place to get to know it.

I'm pretty sure we were not born to emulate a mythical rabbit, we have not evolved to become slaves to the unending demands of social media.
