Los beneficios de establecer metas de estudio y definir tareas de estudio asociadas son numerosos. Cuando sabes exactamente qué, cuándo debes estar estudiando y cuánto tiempo te llevará asimilar y aprender el temario, tu tiempo de estudio se hace inmediatamente más productivo. Tus esfuerzos se verán mejor recompensados que si simplemente empiezas a estudiar un tema. Tus estudios se hacen más productivos y la calidad de los estudios es mayor – todo es positivo.

Tras leer un post antiguo de mi blog, un amigo, padre de dos hijos en edad escolar, me preguntó: "¿Qué es eso de la educación líquida? ¿Ahora hay que enseñar a los niños a nadar?"

En un primer momento su pregunta me hizo sonreír, pero luego me di cuenta de que quizás no iba tan desencaminado...

Tim Robinson: If our students think that the discussion posting is useless and not at all entertaining. It likely means that it is useless and not at all entertaining. We know this because we often feel the same way when we have to make contrived discussions posts. It’s not that our jobs are about entertaining students, but we do need to do what we can do make it at least tolerable.

 

If we can expand our understanding of the tool to get beyond just ‘discussions’ but see it as a platform for other creative ways to explore a topic, we’ll find a much richer level of learning. We can, maybe, even have some fun with it.

In this talk, Sugata Mitra will take us through the origins of schooling as we know it, to the dematerialisation of institutions as we know them. Thirteen years of experiments in children's education takes us through a series of startling results – children can self-organise their own learning, they can achieve educational objectives on their own, they can read by themselves. Finally, the most startling of them all: groups of children with access to the internet can learn anything by themselves. From the slums of India, to the villages of India and Cambodia, to poor schools in Chile, Argentina, Uruguay, the USA and Italy, to the schools of Gateshead and the rich international schools of Washington and Hong Kong, Sugata's experimental results show a strange new future for learning.

Why haven't education reform efforts amounted to much? Because they start with the wrong problem, says John Abbott, director of the 21st Century Learning Initiative. Overhauling the educational paradigm means replacing the metaphor — the concept of the world and its inhabitants as machine-like entities — that has shaped the education system, as well as many other aspects of our culture.

 

Creating “Collaborative Learning Communities”

“It is essential to view learning as a total community responsibility,” he says, and to expect no short cuts. Children need to be integrated, fully contributing members of the broader community, so they can feel useful and valued. (It is not just the children who need this, he adds; healthy communities also need children.)

.

On a practical level, the most powerful lever for change, Abbott says, is people coming together to “rethink the role of community in the learning process,” agreeing how to divide up responsibilities among professional teachers and other community members, and then launching small pilot projects that are true to their new vision. These efforts will build on each other, he says, and large-scale change will follow.
